FRANKIE Dettori lit up day one of York's May meeting by riding a treble which was highlighted by the easy success of So Mi Dar in the Tattersalls Musidora Stakes.

Regally bred, by Dubawi out of the brilliant mare Dar Re Mi, she brought a 100 per cent record to the notable Oaks trial, having already beaten the colts in the Derby Trial at Epsom, form which was notably franked over the weekend.

Sent off the 4-5 favourite to beat six rivals, Dettori was content to sit at the rear before shooting up the rail and streaking four lengths clear of Fireglow, who had finished fourth, best of the rest behind Aidan O'Brien's front three, in the 1000 Guineas.

Her victory at Epsom earned her a place in the Derby but John Gosden pushed that particular question on to the owners.

"She's a lovely filly. She settled well and is very progressive," said Gosden.

"I could not be more pleased with her. She's very generous and settles like a grandma.

"We're heading towards Epsom. She's a proper mile and a half filly and if those two run (Minding and So Mi Dar), it will be some Oaks."

When asked about the Derby, the trainer said: "The man who will probably make that decision is the man who named her, Andrew (Lloyd Webber, owner-breeder)."

Dettori said: "She'll give me a good spin around Epsom. Now it's up to Minding (hot Oaks favourite). She's got to step up in distance – she's very good - but I've got a good one, also."

The Italian claimed the other Group race on the card when Magical Memory followed up his win in the Abernant Stakes by landing the Duke of York Clipper Logistics Stakes.

Charlie Hills' progressive gelding was sent off the 5-2 favourite to continue his ascent up the sprinting ranks and he impressively held off Suedois, with the wayward Danzeno third.

"What has to impress you is the way he travels in his race," said Hills.

"Frankie gets on tremendously well with him and has a lot of faith in him.

"I think the Diamond Jubilee has to be the target, but you could easily drop him back to five (furlongs).

"Frankie rang me up last week and said the race this horse is tailor-made for is the sprint at Santa Anita (Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint), so let's hope he's right."

Dettori made it three out of three for the day on Gosden's 9-2 favourite Castle Harbour in the Conundrum HR Consulting Stakes.

Winner of his maiden at Newmarket, he was unraced as a juvenile.

"I'd have no problem pointing him towards the Jersey (Royal Ascot)," said Gosden.

"I don't think it would be the right thing to try and qualify him for the handicaps."

Tim Easterby is usually a man to follow at York and he opened his seasonal account at the first meeting when See The Sun (9-1) won a hugely competitive Infinity Tyres Stakes, following up a recent win at Doncaster.

The Great Habton handler said: "He's a lovely little horse. I haven't got one (a plan) but he likes this track so we'll look at the good-money handicaps."

The opening 888Sport Stakes went to Richard Hannon and Tom Marquand with Nayel (12-1), despite being 2lb out of the handicap.

Hannon was sheepish in the parade ring afterwards when speaking to connections, which included the Duchess of Cornwall, of runner-up Pacify.

"We'll look for something at (Royal) Ascot. The owners would be keen to go as they're a syndicate of businessman from the Middle East," said Hannon.

Royal Ascot also beckons for Saeed bin Suroor's Kananee (5-4 favourite) after he stretched his unbeaten record to two races in the British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes.

Despite veering all over the track, the Roger Varian-trained Appeared (5-1) looks a creature of some promise judged by his length-and-a-half victory in the Constant Security Stakes.
