WILL MILBURN and Will Easterby both rode doubles when the York and Ainsty staged its bumper nine-race point-to-point meeting.

Christy Furness won only one race - division one of the younger maiden - but was the day's leading rider after several placed efforts.

The day was marred by injury to rider-trainer Emma Todd, who had to be airlifted to hospital after a her mount in the opening Members Hunt race took a crashing fall. She wasn't seriously hurt.

This race saw four runners go to post, three partnered by novice jockeys.

They injected pace with five fences to go, at which point Dead Ringa, ridden by Todd, crashed out. This left Opera Og to repeat his victory of last year, Sean Murray's mount winning by seven lengths from Plenty of Chat under debutant Madison Patzelt.

Division one of the four-, five-, six- and seven-year-old maiden race went the way of Quest of Valour.

Ridden by Furness, the pair came through to win by two and three-quarter lengths from Erica’s Dream and John Dawson.

The second division was the first of Milburn’s double as he partnered the Andy Nicholls-trained Market Road.

The six-year-old, second on his debut at Bedale and a short-priced favourite here, finished smartly after the last fence to beat Mafate Fortin, who was showing his best form this season under Furness, a late replacement for Todd.

Said Milburn of Market Road: "He's improved no end from Bedale. I think he was still a bit green, but he was a lot sharper this time. He's a great attitude and I think he'll improve more."

Milburn’s second win came in the Men’s Open with Six A Side.

The former course winner was produced over the last and driven out. He was pushed all the way by Mistissio and Richard Smith, with Rosie du Berlais third under Furness.

Easterby’s double started in the Memorial Restricted Race on his own Four Oceans, who was quickly following up his maiden win at Braes of Derwent. Refusal was second by three and a half lengths under Harry Kinder.

Easterby’s second win was a pillar-to-post victory on the one-eyed Duke Nelson in division one of the Open Maiden, when deputising for Todd.

The pair looked in danger as Be A Dreamer and Joe Wright went a stride ahead but Duke Nelson’s staying ability came into play and they won by two and a quarter lengths.

Division two went to Danny Mags, ridden by Jack Jordan, who works for Malton trainer Peter Niven.

He was produced over the last before his rider pushed him up the hill. Sam’s Treasure was three and a quarter lengths back under Richard Smith - an eye-catching debut by the four-year-old.

Fifteen runners were quickly strung out in the Club Members Riders Conditions race and Pertemps Networks again took advantage of an easy three miles to land victory. Shantou Prince, with a 5lb allowance, was second under Furness.

In the Ladies Open, Young Hurricane and Freya Brewer moved into the frame only to crash out two from home, leaving Sposalizio in the lead going to the last and Kelly Bryson took advantage to win by three and a half lengths from Drill Sergeant and Emma Horner-Harker in second.
