MORE SPICE won like a sprinter with plenty up his sleeve last time out and can defy a 8lb rise as today's nap selection in the Centrepoint Handicap at Lingfield.

Trainer Robert Cowell, who excels with speedy types, has been using various headgear on him to good effect of late.

The first time he wore a visor he was a well backed 6-4 favourite and won off a mark of 54, although he was beaten off 57 the following month.

After a little break, Cowell swapped visors for blinkers and he looked in a different league to his admittedly limited rivals, winning by two lengths.

More Spice has now gone up to 65, so things will not be as easy and the blinkers need to have the same effect second time, but jockey Jamie Spencer is obviously keen to keep the partnership intact.

The four-year-old has only had seven races and remains massively unexposed. If history repeats itself and he follows in the footsteps of several stablemates, with Goldream the best example, there is no telling where he will end up.

Scott Dixon's CHEZ VEGAS made a promising debut a fortnight ago and looks a sporting selection in the opening Southwellgolfglub.com Maiden Stakes at the Nottinghamshire venue.

The Hellvelyn three-year-old was sent off an unconsidered 33-1 shot for a nine-runner five-furlong maiden at this track but stayed on really nicely to finish fourth.

The second home that day, Cowell's Spice Mill, did not look straightforward and there are enough reasons to think that Dixon's youngster will improve past him.

Spice Mill had already had a run whereas Chez Vegas was making his racecourse bow – and with the benefit of that under his belt, he should know more about the job in hand. Ben Curtis has today's ride.

The Keith Dalgleish-trained BEAUTIFUL STRANGER was only beaten a length on his first run since June recently and should come on for the outing in the Happy Wedding Anniversary Dennis And Mary Handicap under Phillip Makin.

PEARL NATION cut no ice out in Dubai but the fact connections felt it was even worthwhile having a crack out there suggests he should go close in the Visit attheraces.com Handicap.

A real Southwell specialist, there are few options for a horse with his rating, so he won't be out for the fresh air. Andrew Mullen is booked for the ride.

Karl Burke's BIODYNAMIC was sent off favourite for his debut at Nottingham at the end of last season, suggesting he had shown plenty at home, but he ran green when only fifth of 11.

With a winter on his back, he should be wiser and rates the selection in this evening's 32Red On The App Store Maiden Stakes at Kempton. The New Approach colt holds an entry in the Derby.

At Exeter, David Pipe's TWENTYTWO'S TAKEN can get back on the winning trail in the City of Exeter Challenge Cup Handicap Hurdle.
