RICHARD FAHEY was out of luck with his two runners at Southwell yesterday as he tried to break the all-time record of Flat wins in a calendar year.

The Malton trainer, who had equalled Richard Hannon snr's tally of 235 winners, set in 2013, when completing a Lingfield double on Monday, spreads his net to Wolverhampton today. It would be no surprise to see him on the scoreboard yet again.

He has three useful chances, the first of which is COSMIC STATESMAN, who is napped to land the 32Red Casino Handicap.

The three-year-old, who ran some fair races in defeat on turf during the summer, has been placed in both his hurdle races of late. He is switched back to the Flat here and, with his fitness assured, he can come out on top in a modest-looking handicap.

HUTTON, who has finished in the money in both his starts to date, also has good prospects in the 32Red Jack Hobbs Maiden Stakes.

Tony Hamilton, who rides all three of Fahey's runners, has partnered Hutton in his previous starts and knows him well.

The Fahey-Hamilton partnership could also click with ABBEY ANGEL in the Bet In Play At Coral Handicap.

She has some fair form to her credit on turf and if she can cope with this switch to Tapeta, she is capable of going well.

CHARLIE LAD looks capable of lifting the Bet & Watch Every Race At Unibet Handicap (division one).

Steve Drowne's mount has been running well of late and was beaten only a neck by Go Charlie on this course last time. This extra furlong may suit him even better.

Tim Easterby's AZERELLE (5.10) and his BIONIC ANGEL (7.40), trained by his uncle Mick Easterby, are also worthy of attention on a card which could have a strong North Yorkshire theme.

At Lingfield, BOOMERANG BOB may be the answer to the Download The New Unibet Racing App Handicap.

Jamie Osborne's sprinter did well to overcome trouble in running when justifying favouritism in a claimer at Southwell on his latest start. He has more on his plate here, but that winning effort should have boosted his confidence and he is not one to underestimate with William Carson again booked for the ride.

RANTAN is an interesting North Yorkshire runner in the opening 32Red.com Nursery Handicap.

Trained near Thirsk by David Barron, the juvenile made a good impression when winning at Redcar on his second outing in July. He had just one more outing, in a valuable and very competitive sales race at York's Ebor Festival, in which he finished unplaced. This first try in handicap company looks a good race for him to resume his career and provides with him a good opportunity. Phil Makin rides.

Lulu Stanford is a young apprentice beginning to catch the eye and the 7lb claimer has a winning opportunity aboard YOUNG JACKIE, trained by her boss George Margarson, in the second division of the Bet In Play At Coral Handicap.

Stanford has ridden this horse to finish second, third and fourth on his last three starts. Nothing if not consistent, Young Jackie is fancied to come good here over a course and distance where he has scored in the past.

Also worth noting are the hat-trick seeking ALSHAN FAJER (12.30) and BEGGERS LUCK (1.00), who looks to be returning to form and who is proven over this course-and-distance.
