RICHARD FAHEY has equalled the all-time record for winners in a calendar year after striking twice at Lingfield.
Gabrial The Hero's victory in the two-mile 32RedSport.com Handicap and Luis Vas De Torres' success in the closing Daily Price Boosts At Unibet Handicap brought the Malton trainer level with Richard Hannon Snr's best of 235 wins.
His first triumph brought up jockey Tony Hamilton's century - the first time he has chalked up 100 winners in a season - and the rider held Gabrial The Hero (7-1) at the rear of the field before storming in front in the straight.
He still needed to be all out to hold off the late challenge of Cotton Club and Luis Vas De Torres (5-1) was similarly strongly ridden as he stayed ahead of Elusivity by a head.
Fahey tweeted in the aftermath of the landmark victory: "235 winners! We have equalled Richard Hannon Snr's record of 235 winners in a year after Luis Vaz De Torres wins at Lingfield."
