RICHARD FAHEY has edged a little closer to setting a new record for training winners in a calendar year.

The Musley Bank trainer struck with Hold on Magnolia in the 32RedSport.com Nursery Handicap at Wolverhampton to bring up his 232nd winner of 2015.

Ridden by David Nolan, the juvenile son of Monsieur Bond broke his maiden when edging out Mysterious Look by a nose in the six furlong, class six contest.

It leaves Malton trainer Fahey only three short of equalling Richard Hannon's total of 235 victories in 12 months - a figure the handler set two years ago.

Fahey had runners at both all-weather meetings at Southwell and Wolverhampton but Oak Bluffs could only finish fifth in the Download the Ladbrokes App Handicap at the Nottinghamshire track, while Gabrial The Thug finished seventh in the Ladbrokes Apprentice Handicap - the final race of the day at the East Midlands track.

With no racing now staged in Britain until Boxing Day, Fahey faces a race against time to set the new mark before the year comes to a close.
