RICHARD Fahey, four winners away from equalling Britain's record score in a calendar year, saddles runners at both of today's all-weather fixtures and can inch a little closer to his all-important target.

At Southwell, Oak Bluffs gives the Malton trainer a fighting chance of success, while at Wolverhampton, Luis Vaz de Torres and Gabrial The Thug likewise have chances of adding their names to the remarkable 231-winner tally Fahey has recorded in 2015. Richard Hannon senior holds the record of 235 winners in 2013.

OAK BLUFFS is not the easiest of horses to win with – but he got it right at Ayr in September and would almost certainly have gone close on his latest start at Chelmsford, where he was beaten less than three lengths into fourth place by Supersta after meeting trouble in running from over a furlong out before staying on well towards the finish.

This afternoon's Download The Ladbrokes App Handicap over the same distance of a mile looks sure to be run at a good gallop with the likes of habitual front-runner and course specialist Royal Holiday in the field.

That will suit Oak Bluffs, who is fancied to oblige for Tony Hamilton – who is chasing his own personal milestone. The Malton jockey is just three winners away from his first-ever century in a season.

Jack Garritty teams up with LUIS VAZ DE TORRES in the Download The New Unibeet Racing App Handicap, which kicks off the Wolverhampton programme.

A poor draw impacted on the gelding's chances on his latest start when he finished sixth at Chelmsford. He had previously finished a one-length runner-up to Hoofalong on the same course.

Already a winner at this venue, Luis Vaz de Torres has no excuses this afternoon from a mid-field draw in this five-furlong dash.

GABRIAL THE THUG goes for the Ladbrokes Apprentice Handicap. He will be a first ride in Britain for Adam McNamara, who joined the Fahey team in late summer after having nine rides in Ireland when attached to the Johnny Murtagh stable.

Gabrial The Thug failed to run up to his best here last time out but had previously finished a decent fourth at Chelmsford. Moreover, he was a winner over this course and distance earlier in the year.

He is not the easiest of horses to predict but there is little doubt he possesses the ability to clinch this race if things pan out well for him under McNamara, who has yet to ride a winner. He is awarded the nap vote to return to winning ways.

Remaining at Wolverhampton, ALWAYS WELCOME can make it third-time lucky in the 32Red.com Maiden Stakes.

The John Gosden-trained juvenile has finished runner-up in all his three races to date. He possesses a fair level of ability but is a free-going sort who can sometimes be his own worst enemy.

Provided jockey Adam Kirby can keep his energy levels at an even tempo here, Always Welcome has the opportunity to finally come out on top.

Also worth noting are the promising GO ON GO ON GO ON (2.10) and recent course and distance winner INNISH MAN (3.40), trained by John Mackie and the mount of Norton jockey Tom Eaves.

Back at Southwell, TWIN APPEAL looks tempting in the Bet Now With The Ladbrokes App Handicap.

Trained near Thirsk by David Barron, the four-year-old finished third, beaten only a length, to Westwood Hoe over this course and distance ten days ago on his first outing for three months.

That was a useful effort in the context of this race and Twin Appeal might not need to improve much to secure top spot this afternoon. Graham Gibbons will be in the saddle.

North Yorkshire jockey Paul Mulrennan has had a wonderful year, highlighted by his first-ever Group One success on the Michael Dods-trained Mecca's Angel in the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes at York in August.

Mulrennan teams up with YUL FINEGOLD for Connor Dore in the Coral Handicap and has every chance of landing the most valuable race on the card aboard a horse who comes from a stable in form and who is proven on this Fibresand course.
