NORTON trainer Julie Camacho struck gold at York Racecourse.

The Star Cottage handler saddled Swaheen (8-1) to success in the £50,000 Stan James Stakes as the curtain starts to come down on the 2015 season on Knavesmire.

All six runners in the mile and three quarter test had chances coming down the straight as Agent Gibbs looked to stretch out the small field.

It was Brandon Castle, ranging alongside, who looked the chief threat a quarter of a mile from home but, on the outside, Camacho's talented three-year-old, already with victories at Redcar and Ripon this season, swept to the front and won comfortably by a length and a half under jockey Joe Doyle.

You're Fired (15-2 jt-fav) continued his good form on Knavesmire when winning the Stan James Bet On Your Mobile Stakes.

Middleham trainer Karl Burke's four-year-old had finished second and third on previous trips to the Minster city this season and took the £18,650 first prize with a decent display in the contest over an extended mile.

You're Fired hit the front a furlong from home and, despite a concerted chase from Godolphin's Quick Wit, was half a length too good at the finish.

As well as recording a victory for the North Yorkshire trainer, it brought jockey Dougie Costello - more noted for his exploits as a rider over fences and hurdles - a decent purse on the level.

Phillip Makin all but sewed up the York top jockey title when winning the opening TSG Stakes on 15-8 favourite Culturati. It was the North Yorkshire rider's 11th victory of the season on Knavesmire.

Elsewhere, Malton trainer Richard Fahey and jockey Tony Hamilton got on the board when Dolphin Vista (11-2) beat Carenot by three lengths to take the Racing UK Members Free Entry Today Maiden Auction Stakes.

York's groundstaff, meanwhile, have once again been praised for the high quality of their work.

The team at York, led by head groundsman Adrian Kay, have seen the track named the best flat racecourse at the 2015 Racecourse Groundstaff Awards.

Sandown was named the best dual purpose course and Huntingdon the best National Hunt track. One of the trio will be crowned the overall Racecourse Groundstaff Champions at the RCA Showcase Awards on November 12.

Caroline Davies, Racecourse Association services director, said: "The hard work and dedication of the Groundstaff Teams at racecourses across Britain is exceptional and the RCA is delighted to recognise this via the Racecourse Groundstaff Awards.

"It is with great pleasure that we announce Huntingdon, Sandown Park and York as the winners of the 2015 Racecourse Groundstaff Awards and look forward to the announcement of the overall Champion at the RCA Showcase & Awards in November."
