STORM The Stars, placed in both the English and Irish Derbys, can write his name on to the Classic roll of honour at Doncaster this afternoon.

The super-tough colt, trained at Newmarket by William Haggas, confirmed his well-being when winning last month's Great Voltigeur Stakes at York and is fancied to lift the Ladbrokes St Leger – perhaps at the main expense of Bondi Beach, who ran him so close on Knavesmire.

The finish of the Great Voltigeur was a controversial one. Pat Cosgrave, rider of Storm The Stars, allowed his mount to drift across the course into Bondi Beach, who was only half a length adrift at the line.

While the placings were allowed to stand, Cosgrave picked-up a ban for careless riding. Whether the interference cost Bondi Beach the race is arguable. Some think so, others take the view that had Storm The Stars kept straight and not idled slightly in front, he would have won by further.

It promises to be a fascinating battle between the pair this afternoon but Storm The Stars is fancied to confirm his superiority over Bondi Beach and also prove too strong for Fields Of Athenry – who, like Bondi Beach, is trained by Aidan O'Brien.

Paul Hanagan may not have a St Leger ride but the jockey can win the At The Races Champagne Stakes on IBN MALIK.

A winner at Newbury on his debut, Charles Hills' talented colt has since finished a close-up second in the Vintage Stakes at Goodwood. He is open to further improvement and is selected to secure Group 2 honours this afternoon.

The Ladbrokes Portland Handicap looks its usual head-scratcher for punters. Paul Midgley's Another Wise Kid is just one with solid claims – but his number one draw will not be an advantage and preference is for PIPERS NOTE, three-times a winner this season, who should relish this five-and-a-half furlongs. Malton jockey George Chaloner takes the mount as usual.

Also worth noting at Town Moor are the classy LIMATO (3.10), stepping up to seven furlongs for the first time, and Geoff Oldroyd's ultra-consistent ALFRED HUTCHINSON (4.55), who ran such a wonderful race to be narrowly beaten at last month's York Ebor Festival.

At Chester, nap selection AJMAN BRIDGE has a good opportunity of gaining his just desserts in the featured £40,000 Betfair Stand Cup, a Listed race.

Luca Cumani's battle-hardened campaigner has produced a whole sequence of creditable displays this summer, ranging from Royal Ascot in June, Goodwood in July and two visits to York for the John Smith's Cup and, most recently, the Ebor Handicap, in which he finished sixth.

Ajman Bridge is long overdue another visit to the winners' enclosure. Opportunity may come knocking for him today.

Adam Kirby, rider of Ajman Bridge, can also capture the Betfair Tap Tap Boom Nursery on EJAAZAH, trained by Richard Hannon.

The two-year-old found himself in a little too deep in Listed company at Newbury on his latest start but he had previously scored over this course and distance. That experience will stand him in good stead here and he is well drawn in stall one.

Richard Fahey has good prospects of figuring among the winners on the Roodee circuit. The Malton trainer has a useful chance in the opening Betfair Price Rush Maiden Stakes with the promising STAMP HILL and also with Beverley winner MFIFTYTHREEDOTCOM in the Betfair More To Play For Handicap.
