MAX DYNAMITE deserved the title when storming to victory in the Weatherbys Hamilton Lonsdale Cup on the third day of the Welcome To Yorkshire Ebor Festival at York Racecourse.

The 8-1 winner, saddled by jumps trainer Willie Mullins, was an effortless four and a half length victory over Mizzou after a brilliant burst of speed took him to the front with two furlongs of the two mile £160,000 Group 2 contest left to travel.

As good over hurdles as on the level, it was an impressive staying performance under Frankie Dettori, who was impressed enough to perform his trademark flying dismount in the winner’s enclosure afterwards.

Wearing the colours that brought the Cheltenham Festival to its knees earlier this year, Dettori said: “Willie Mullins is a legend and wearing these colours means a lot. He gave me a dream ride, I don't know which one I'll ride in the Gold Cup next year!

"I knew he'd get me to the line and he won very well. He beat some very good horses very easily and you've got to think of the Gold Cup next year.

"I think the ground was key as he likes to get his toe in.”

Fadhayyil (5-1 jt-fav) battled to glory in the Listed Sky Bet City of York Stakes under former Malton jockey Paul Hanagan.

The Barry Hills-trained three-year-old was challenged hard by fellow joint-favourite Speculative Bid in the final furlong but found a bit more to record a half length victory.

The Lambourn-based handler said: “I think cut in the ground helped a bit, she's only had three runs and for whatever reason at Goodwood she ran flat, from not a great draw.

"I've always thought a lot of her. I'd like to think she could be in the Sun Chariot, races like that.

"I've no problem going over a mile with her now.

"You never know what they'll find off the bridle, but he (Hanagan) had a good draw and was able to give her a chance early on."

The opening Sky Bet First Race Special Stakes lived up to its name when Libran (9-1) and Memorial Day (7-1) fought out a dead heat.

A photo-finish could not separate the pair after they had duelled side-by-side through the final furlong of the mile and a half £60,000 contest.

Elsewhere, Beautiful Morning (12-1) was a length too good for 3-1 favourite Very Talented in the British Stallion Studs EBF Convivial Maiden Stakes for Newmarket trainer Luca Cumani and jockey William Buick.

The closing Nationwide Accident Repair Services Stakes went to 33-1 shot My Dream Boat, the mount of Dane O'Neill and saddled by Hungerford's Clive Cox.
