NORTH Yorkshire enthusiasts can look forward to a double dose of action today with Catterick this afternoon and an evening meeting at Ripon where the feature race is run in memory of the Stillington trainer who handled such horses as Soba, Chaplin's Club and Glencroft.

The David Chapman Memorial Handicap over six furlongs boasts prize money of £12,000 and Paul Midgley is aiming to win it for the second successive year with SILVANUS.

Like Chapman, Midgley has a particular flair with sprinters and in Silvanus, he has a horse at the top of his game, even at ten years old. The evergreen gelding has won his last two races at York and Pontefract like a horse half his age.

Silvanus has top weight of 9st 10lb to carry, which is likely to be tough for him, but he is fancied to prevail under Graham Lee. See The Sun from the Tim Easterby yard and the back-to-form Blithe Spirit represent the most potent dangers.

BOND BOMBSHELL created something of an upset at Beverley recently when beating the long odds-on White Bullet to break her maiden after a series of creditable efforts.

The filly, trained by David O'Meara and owned by an enthusiastic group called the Trendy Ladies, lines up for the Sanlam Private Wealth And Guests Nursery Handicap. With Silvestre de Sousa again in the saddle, she is out to prove that her Beverley success was no fluke.

De Sousa, who is blazing the trail in the jockeys' championship, can also clinch the Alice In Wonderland Raceday 18th August Fillies' Handicap on ATLANTIC AFFAIR trained by the likewise in-form Mark Johnston.

The four-year-old has won her last two starts at Musselburgh and Newmarket and although 5lb higher for the latest of those wins, she commands plenty of respect in this one-mile event.

De Sousa and Johnston have another rock-solid chance with DUKE STREET in the Theakston Terrace Bar Handicap.

The three-year-old has been a revelation already this season, winning four of his last five races. He is now up to a career-high mark of 77, but that may not be enough to anchor him, bearing in mind his last three wins have been gained by an aggregate of 20 lengths!

William Haggas has an excellent record on this course and the Newmarket trainer looks to have found a perfect opening for MAWJOOD in the SIS Live Maiden Stakes.

Dane O'Neill's mount failed to justify favouritism on his latest start at Wetherby when worn down near the finish after going clear in the straight and ending a length-and-a half runner-up to California. He can go one better here.

At Catterick, Kevin Ryan's LET'S TWIST is selected to defy top weight in the Betfred Racing Follow Us On Twitter Handicap.

The three-year-old came good on his second start over this course and distance three weeks ago. The form of that race was nothing to write home about, but Let's Twist remains open to plenty of further improvement and, off an opening mark of 65, he can add this handicap to his credits.

Ryan can also win the opening Betfred TV EBF Stallions Maiden Stakes with nap selection MOHAB.

Although a beaten favourite at York on his debut, Mohab showed definite ability that day and also gave the impression that the outing would not have been wasted on him. With that race under his belt, he should be tough to beat this time.

Lawrence Mullaney may have only seven horses under his care but the Great Habton trainer has sent out three winners lately. He could well add to his tally with NOBLE REACH, who has decent claims in the Betfred Supports Jack Berry House Handicap after a couple of respectable placed efforts.

Today's tips, Catterick: 2.15 Mohab (NAP), 2.45 Monsea, 3.15 Camanche Grey, 3.45 Nonchalant, 4.15 Noble Reach, 4.45 Asha, 5.15 Euxton, 5.45 Let's Twist.

Ripon: 6.05 By Far, 6.35 Bond Bombshell, 7.05 Ajaadat, 7.35 Silvanus, 8.05 Duke Street, 8.35 Mawjood.
