IN A WEEK which has seen stable star Borderlescott enter honourable retirement after a fine sprinting career, Wetherby trainer Rebecca Bastiman relies on another of her speedsters to secure the feature contest at Beverley this afternoon.

SINGEUR, who lines-up in the £12,500 Coachman Caravans Quality Handicap, has been in excellent form lately, winning over five furlongs at Redcar on his penultimate start and finding only Ace Master a length and a quarter too strong at Thirsk last time when stepped up to six furlongs.

He's back to the minimum trip this afternoon and, well drawn in stall five and with Tom Eaves in the saddle, Singeur is expected to take plenty of catching on a course where he has scored in the past.

Richard Fahey has good prospects scoring with NORMANDY KNIGHT in the C.G.I. Handicap.

Jack Garritty's mount struck winning form, after a series of respectable efforts, at Leicester recently. Now that he has got his head in front, it would be no surprise to see him double up and he is awarded the nap vote.

POPLAR CLOSE can provide David O'Meara with the opening honours in the Award-Winning Coachman Caravans Maiden Stakes, which would be a popular result among the management.

The Canford Cliffs filly is jointly-owned by course chairman Charles Maxted and chief executive Sally Iggulden, who have every right to be optimistic of having a winner following the youngster's creditable runner-up finish on this track recently behind Star Luck.

Poplar Close is fancied to go one better under Graham Gibbons, who is selected to complete a quick double in the following British Stallion Studs Leisure Furnishings Maiden Stakes on KOOTHRAPPALI.

David Barron's juvenile chased home Muhadathat at Musselburgh last time and is well drawn to take advantage of a good opportunity.

Also worth noting are the consistent SNAPPY GUEST (4.10) and the promising GRAND BEAUTY (5.20), who is making a belated seasonal debut.

At Haydock's excellent meeting, William Haggas can win the bet365 Lancashire Oaks with ARABIAN COMET, the mount of North Yorkshire jockey Joe Fanning.

A triple-winner last season, when she made rapid progress through the ranks, the four-year-old made an encouraging reappearance to finish a close-up third in a Listed contest at Goodwood in May. That outing should have teed her up nicely for this tougher test.

Edward Greatrex is an apprentice making rapid strides up the ladder and the talented teenager can claim a major prize aboard useful ally ELBERETH in the £100,000 bet365 Old Newton Cup.

Trained by Andrew Balding, Greatrex's boss, Elbereth carried the 7lb claimer to a notable victory at Epsom's Derby meeting. She has risen 8lb in the ratings since but is an improving filly and looks sure to go well, stepping back up to a mile and a half.

JUMEIRAH GLORY, who won on his last visit to Haydock, bids to follow up for Fahey in the opening bet365 Handicap in the hands of Tony Hamilton.

Paul Hanagan was aboard the three-year-old over this course and distance last month when getting home by a short head from Serene Beauty after the pair had pulled six lengths clear of the remainder. Off his revised mark, he has a tougher task here, but his chances should not be underestimated.

Tim Easterby's speedy PENNY ROYALE (3.25) and the consistent FLEXIBLE FLYER (4.35), trained by Chris Dwyer and the mount of Silvestre de Sousa, are two others to note at the Lancashire course.
