YORKSHIRE racegoers are spoilt for choice today with Thirsk in the afternoon and Pontefract in the evening making for a busy day's racing for jockeys putting in an extra shift.

Paul Hanagan, Silvestre de Sousa, Graham Gibbons, Jason Hart and Connor Beasley will be among those riders in action at both meetings.

Hanagan, seen to good effect when narrowly winning on Raaqy at Doncaster on Saturday, teams up with his former Malton boss Richard Fahey at both venues and can start the day in style aboard MR LUPTON in the Thirsk Races Champagne & Seafood Package Maiden Stakes.

The son of Elnadim finished second to Millennium Force on his debut on this course last month over five furlongs. This extra furlong is expected to suit him much better and with that run under his belt, he is entitled to be in the thick of the action.

Hanagan also has a useful ride for Fahey on the well-related Postulant in the Martin House Children's Hospice Maiden Fillies' Stakes, but the three-year-old, placed on both her outings to date, may once again have to settle for minor honours. Preference is for TEMPTING, trained by William Haggas, who sent out Storm The Stars to finish third in Saturday's Derby at Epsom.

Tempting is a long way shy of Storm The Stars in terms of ability, but she displayed plenty of promise when going down by only a neck to Angel Vision on her debut at Newmarket last month. She has every chance of going one better under Harry Bentley.

The Weatherbys Hamilton Handicap is the feature race on the Thirsk card and it could pay to rely on course specialist COMINO, trained by Kevin Ryan.

The four-year-old seems to reserve many of his best performances for this course and has gained three of his four career wins at this track over seven furlongs. He now has to prove himself over a mile and bounce back to form after two subdued displays this season. He should be coming to the boil again now and he will be ridden by trainer's daughter Amy Ryan, who seems to take only a select amount of rides these days. Her presence on Comino could be significant.

Henry Candy does not send runners north without them having good prospects and the trainer can hit the target with EXOPLANET BLUE in the Next Meeting 'Champagne Tuesday' 16th June Handicap.

Dane O'Neill's mount finished third at Bath first time out this season and stepped up on that display when beaten little more than a length into second by Accra Beach at Windsor a week ago. She can go one better.

At Pontefract, Nigel Tinkler can take the feature race, the £15,000 Mr Wolf Sprint Handicap with nap selection NORMANDY BARRIERE, who has looked a much-improved horse this season.

The three-year-old got off the mark over six furlongs at Redcar, followed up over this course and distance and has since finished a good second at York's Dante meeting when upped to seven furlongs.

Jason Hart again teams up with Normandy Barriere who is back to six furlongs in this valuable dash.

Neville Bycroft can lift the Flat Cap And Whippet Father's Day 21st June Handicap with ADIATOR, the mount of Robert Winston.

The seven-year-old made an encouraging start to the campaign when finishing second at Beverley last month to Thatcherite, beaten only a neck. She has every chance of taking the main prize this time.

Also worth noting are the speedy MARTIN TIME (6.40) whom de Sousa rides for Mark Johnston, and easy Newcastle winner MAKING SHAPES (8.10), trained by Peter Chapple-Hyam and the mount of Andrea Atzeni, who had a disappointing ride on the unplaced Elm Park in Saturday's Derby.
