PAUL HANAGAN, quickly back among the winners since returning from his winter stint in Dubai, has good prospects of adding to his tally at Redcar this afternoon.

The former champion jockey, who has much to look forward to in the month ahead riding as retained rider to Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum, pulls on the owner's colours aboard Alnashama in the first division of the Market Cross Jewellers Maiden Stakes.

Trained by Charlie Hills, Alnashama showed plenty of promise in three outings as a juvenile last season. Runner-up, beaten only a head on his second start at Newcastle, he occupied the same position on his final outing at Newmarket behind the highly-regarded Ooty Hil.

This looks a good opportunity for Alnashama to open his winning account before he heads down a handicap route.

James Doyle, now retained by Godolphin, enjoyed a wonderful winter for his new employers during the Dubai Carnival and, like Hanagan, has an abundance of horses at his disposal in Britain this season.

Doyle, whose mount Stay Strong offers not to be underestimated opposition to Alnashama, teams up with the Godolphin newcomer Well Off in the second leg of the maiden. This looks a race that may not take a lot of winning and Well Off, a well-bred son of Monsun, will probably not need to be above average to win on his debut.

Reggie Bond may prove the answer to the tricky-looking Pinnacle Racing Syndicate Shares Now Available Handicap.

Trained at Brawby near Malton by Geoff Oldroyd, the gelding has won at Wolverhampton and finished third there since the turn of the year. A Haydock scorer last summer, he is entitled to every respect in the hands of Barry McHugh.

McHugh also has a fighting chance aboard Tim FitzGerald's Warfare, who has been in good form on synthetic surfaces this winter. The six-year-old is proven on turf with two wins from 11 outings and the Ellie Smith Designed Today's Racecard Cover Handicap.

Mayfield Girl is napped to lift the opening Redcar Racecourse Cheapest Admission In Great Britain Fillies' Handicap.

Fourth on her reappearance in January at Wolverhampton, Mayfield Girl has shown some of the best of her form at this time of the year in previous seasons, not least in 2013, when she gained two successes in April.

Come Saturday and Saltburn trainer Keith Reveley will be represented in the £1m Crabbie's Grand National by Night In Milan, who could be a lively outsider at around 40-1. More immediately, Reveley aims to land the Redcar Racecourse Supporting Walking The Courses Handicap with Waltz Darling.

A dual-winner over hurdles this winter, Waltz Darling will lack nothing in fitness in this two-miler. He has every chance of providing Phil Dennis, previously a promising amateur rider and conditional jockey, with a winner on his first mount as an apprentice on turf.

Over the jumps at Market Rasen, Lord Landen can win the Christine Allen 60th Birthday Handicap Chase for trainer Fergal O'Brien, who is aiming to run Alvarado in Saturday's Grand National at Aintree.

The mount of smart 3lb claimer Connor Shoemark, Lord Landen was a beaten favourite last time out at Towcester, but he finished a creditable second all the same. He is worth another chance.

The 32Red.com Handicap Hurdle is the target for Phare Isle, a wide-margin winner at Huntingdon last week.

It is no surprise that trainer Ben Case is keen to get him out again under a 7lb penalty before the handicapper reassesses him. A follow-up is on the cards.

Nicky Henderson's Gold Present (2.00), a 22 lengths winner at Stratford a couple of weeks ago, and Lady Buttons (4.20), a former useful bumper performer, who looks well weighted in her first handicap over hurdles, are two others to bear in mind at the Lincolnshire course.
