LAMBOURN trainer Clive Cox has good prospects of a double at Wolverhampton this afternoon.

Cox is fancied to score with nap selection Loaves And Fishes and Perfect Cracker with the former set to make her first appearance on a synthetic surface in the 32Red Fillies’ Handicap.

A well-bred individual by the much sought-after sire Oasis Dream, Loaves And Fishes was well fancied on her debut at Haydock last September and passed her initial test with flying colours, scoring by nearly three lengths in the hands of Adam Kirby.

Cox spoke highly afterwards of the filly, who looks destined to enjoy a lucrative three-year-old campaign this season. Today’s event looks a pretty competitive affair, but Loaves And Fishes has plenty going for her and is plainly not to be underestimated.

Perfect Cracker bids for a hat-trick of Wolverhampton wins in the coral.co.uk Handicap.

The gelding has been in tremendous form lately and although he has risen to a mark of 84, after previously winning off ratings of 76 and 80, there is much to like about his chances.

Ryan Tate, who gets on well with the seven-year-old, again has the mount.

Loraine is expected to prove too good for the remainder in the Ladbrokes Claiming Stakes.

Jamie Osborne’s charge won a handicap at Lingfield two starts back and has since been beaten a short-head in claiming company.

Opportunity now knocks for Loraine to get back on top.

Leoncavallo (2.10), who is fancied to appreciate the step up in trip and the hat-trick seeking Ninepointsixthree (3.10) are two others to bear in mind on the Tapeta track.

Over the jumps at Ludlow, the featured Bromfield Sand & Gravel Handicap Chase could have a North Yorkshire ring to it, courtesy of Lucky Landing, the mount of Denis O’Regan.

Trained at Norton by Tony Coyle, the nine-year-old looks to be returning to top form.

He has finished second on his last two starts at Bangor and Market Rasen and even allowing that this is a tough event, he has a fighting chance of emerging triumphant.

Tony McCoy will be reunited with Slowfoot, who did not live up to his name at Plumpton at the end of February when he won on his hurdling debut, with McCoy in the saddle, by a cosy six lengths.

A useful horse on the Flat in France, where he had a rating of more than 100, Slowfoot looks a potentially useful recruit to jumping.

He makes plenty of appeal in the Ludlow Racing Partnership Novices’ Hurdle.

In just over a week from now, Dr Richard Newland will be returning to Aintree with Pineau Du Rea, hoping to win a second successive Grand National with his evergreen chaser.

In the meantime, the trainer has good prospects of winning the Oswestry Bone Cancer Centre Appeal Handicap Chase with Bombadero.

Christopher Ward’s mount finished a fine second, beaten only a length, at Stratford five days ago.

Whether this race will come too soon for him after those exertions, which followed more than a year on the sidelines, is a concern. But, if he can reproduce his Stratford form, Bombadero has a leading chance.

Also worth noting are the consistent A Good Skin (3.00) and Broxbourne (3.30), who takes a drop in grade after contesting two Listed races.

Wolverhampton today: 2.10 Leoncavallo, 2.40 Loaves And Fishes (NAP), 3.10 Ninepointsixthree, 3.40 Perfect Cracker, 4.10 Loraine, 4.40 Sugar Boy, 5.10 Bogsnog.

Ludlow today: 2.20 Slowfoot, 3.00 A Good Skin, 3.30 Broxbourne, 4.00 Lucky Landing, 4.30 Bombadero, 5.00 Foundry Square, 5.30 Vaihau.

Today’s other meeting: Taunton.
