TWO North Yorkshire trainers with runners in Saturday’s BetBright Lincoln Handicap at Doncaster on the opening day of the Flat turf season have good prospects of figuring among the winners at Southwell today.

David O’Meara, set to be represented by up to three runners in the traditional curtain-raiser, a trip which includes expensive French purchase Mondialiste, saddles Frontier Fighter in the £20,000 Ladbrokes Handicap.

The seven-year-old showed very little in two outings in Dubai this winter, but he should lack nothing in fitness and he is back on a course where he has won four times. Moreover, he won this race 12 months ago.

Danny Tudhope has the mount.

Brian Ellison, who is preparing to run Baraweez in the Town Moor showpiece, has good prospects of lifting the 32Red Handicap with nap selection Invincible Wish, the mount of Ali Rawlinson.

The three-year-old won by more than two lengths on this course a fortnight ago and is now set to race off only a 4lb higher mark.

He looks sure to go well.

Stillington trainer Ruth Carr has double prospects with the promising Kerbaaj in the Unibet Handicap and Light The City, who goes for the 32Red Casino Amateur Riders’ Handicap.

Light The City has not run on the Flat for well over a year, but he has been in excellent form lately over hurdles and has won at Newcastle and Sedgefield. A dual-winner here, he will be partnered by Serena Brotherton.

At Lingfield, Middleham trainer Mark Johnston has every chance of recording a double with Triple Dip and Watersmeet.

Triple Dip, who lines up in the opening 32Red.com Maiden Fillies’ Stakes, finished runner-up at Nottingham and Newmarket on her final two outings as a juvenile. If she handles this synthetic surface, she promises to be a tough nut to crack.

Watersmeet ran out a decisive winner on his latest start at Chelmsford last week. A 6lb penalty may not be enough to prevent him completing a quick double in the Coral App Download From The App Store Handicap. Joe Fanning rides the Johnston pair.

Les Eyre, who is based near Beverley, sends Boxing Shadows on the long journey to Lingfield, which may be significant.

The gelding is hardly heading south for a change of scenery. He looks sure to be all the better for his recent comeback outing at Kempton over six furlongs and will be well served by the switch to the minimum trip in the Unibet Handicap.

Malton jockey David Allan, who has spent the winter riding in India, takes the mount on Boxing Shadows.

Henry Grace merits attention in the Download The Ladbrokes App Handicap.

A winner at Kempton on his seasonal debut, the Jimmy Fox-trained four-year-old failed by only a nose to follow up on the same course next time. If he can reproduce that form six weeks on he should go well.

Callac (3.30), who has shaped well on his two previous visists to this track and The French Grey (5.00), who produced an encouraging display on his handicap debut at Wolverhampton a couple of weeks ago, are two others to consider at Lingfield.

Southwell today: 2.20 Tijan, 2.50 Tartan Trip, 3.20 Frontier Fighter, 3.50 Kerbaaj, 4.20 Invincible Wish (NAP), 4.50 Light The City.

Lingfield today: 2.30 Triple Dip, 3.00 Henry Grace, 3.30 Callac, 4.00 Watersmeet, 4.30 Boxing Shadows, 5.00 The French Grey.

Today’s other meetings: Kempton and Newton Abbot.
