DONALD McCAIN is aiming to strike while the iron is hot with Nefyn Bay at Doncaster this afternoon.

The Cheshire trainer has placed the gelding to win four races in under a month and two in less than a fortnight.

Nefyn Bay, in action as recently as Catterick on Tuesday when he scored by seven lengths, turns out in the BetBright Novices’ Handicap Hurdle under a penalty, which is effectively cancelled out by the claim of promising conditional jockey James Cowley.

A fifth straight win may well be on the cards.

Scotsbrook Legend should not be overlooked in the featured BetBright Mobile Mares’ Handicap Hurdle.

Winner of her only two starts last season, at Huntingdon and Leicester, the seven-year-old finished unplaced at Wincanton on her reappearance six weeks ago, but shaped well for a long way before fading late in the day.

She should strip a lot fitter this time and is expected to go well in the hands of smart 3lb claimer Peter Carberry.

Quicuyo gets the vote in the BetBright Best Odds Handicap Chase.

Lucinda Russell’s gelding finished second to Aye Well at Ayr last time and the winner has since franked that form by following up at Wetherby.

He is a previous winner on this course and will doubtless appreciate this return to a sounder surface.

Harvey’s Hope has not been running particularly well this season, but a return to better ground and to a course where he has won in he past, may bring about a comeback for Keith Reveley’s gelding, who is well handicapped on his best form.

He lines up in the BetBright Casino Handicap Hurdle and is sportingly awarded the nap vote to return to winning form.

James Reveley, the trainer’s son, has the mount.

At Newbury, Tony McCoy’s relentless quest for winners before he retires continues, and the 19-time champion jockey has three solid chances on his local course.

Sebastian Beach can get McCoy off to a good start in the AJC Premier Juvenile Hurdle.

The Jonjo O’Neill-trained four-year-old created a good impression when winning at Chepstow a couple of weeks ago.

He has more on his plate here but is fancied to come through with flying colours.

Minella Rocco, likewise trained by the in-form O’Neill, goes for the Physicool Novices’ Hurdle with McCoy in the saddle.

A point-to-point winner on his only start last year, the gelding made a successful start to his hurdling career when winning by six lengths at Kempton three weeks ago. He looks a decent prospect.

McCoy can bring up a treble in the Rickety Bridge Mares’ National Hunt Flat Race on Jully Les Buxy.

Trained by Anthony Honeyball, the five-year-old has finished in the frame in both her starts to date, at Doncaster and Wincanton.

She may be able to make it third time lucky, especially if the newcomers in this race do not amount to much.

Village Vic is fancied to prove the solution to the Berry Bros & Rudd Handicap Chase.

Having shaped well on his chasing debut at Ascot on his seasonal reappearance, Philip Hobbs’ gelding had very testing ground to overcome at Ffos Las last time and also made an untimely blunder which spoiled his chances.

If he can get his act together this afternoon, Village Vic should take plenty of beating.
