RICHARD FAHEY, who pulled off a four-timer at Wolverhampton on Monday, can continue his excellent form at Southwell today.

The Malton trainer saddles Patrick in the opening Unibet Handicap over five furlongs and Tony Hamilton’s mount is fancied to prevail.

A winner on his debut at Lingfield, Patrick has since finished a close-up third at Chelmsford, where he was slightly unlucky after clipping the heels of another runner and losing his place in the first half of the race.

Although he drops back to the minimum distance today, Patrick is not short on speed and is expected to have the necessary pace to come out on top.

Jane Elliott enjoyed a red-letter day on this course last month when posting her first career success, and the young rider, who has had only two mounts this season and 16 in all, can double her tally aboard Falcon’s Reign in the Ladbrokes Apprentice Handicap.

The six-year-old finished a half-length second to With Hindsight on this course last time out on his first appearance of 2015. He can go one better and put Elliott back in the spotlight.

Appleby may also clinch the featured Download The Coral App Handicap with Royal Peculiar, the mount of Luke Morris.

The seven-year-old performed admirably to finish third to Bushel on this course four weeks ago on his first outing since September 2013. He should be all the better for his reappearance and is fancied to have the edge over Gabrial The Duke, representing Fahey and Hamilton.

A good performance from Royal Peculiar will point favourably towards Carragold in the coral.co.uk Racing Handicap.

Trained at Warthill by Mel Brittain and the mount of York-based Robert Winston, Carragold finished second in Bushel’s race over this course and distance last month.

The nap vote is awarded to East River, trained by John Wainwright, in the Unibet Maiden Stakes.

This son of Captain Rio showed no lack of speed or promise on his debut over this course and distance three weeks ago and held every chance until weakening in the closing stages.

He may last longer this time and is fancied to show his rivals a clean pair of heels under Paul Mulrennan.

Over the jumps at Ludlow, a note should be made of North Yorkshire raider Vodka Wells in the Corbett Sports Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle.

Trained at Norton by Brian Ellison, the five-year-old produced a solid effort to chase home Beg To Differ at Carlisle on his most recent outing. A reproduction of that form will make him hard to beat with Nathan Moscrop again in the saddle.

The £22,500 Forbra Gold Cup Chase offers an opportunity to What A Good Night to gain a valuable success.

Trained by Dan Skelton, who is enjoying a bumper season, the seven-year-old has won two of his three races this season, at Wetherby and Uttoxeter, and was unlucky in the other at Southwell where he came to grief with the race seemingly at his mercy.

Trickaway has good prospects in the Corbettsports.com Novices’ Handicap Chase.

After wins at Exeter and Uttoxeter, Philip Hobbs’ gelding was denied a hat-trick at Wincanton last time, but he still ran a creditable race in third.
