NORTON trainer John Quinn's 2000 Guineas hope The Wow Signal will get a run-out before bidding for Classic glory.

The Highfield handler's Coventry Stakes and Prix Morny victor will be targeted at either Newmarket's Craven Stakes or the Greenham Stakes at Newbury ahead of his expected date at headquarters on May 2.

The three-year-old was a huge hit during his juvenile year, after kicking off with an impressive maiden victory at Ayr, but disappointed on his final run - failing to hit the heights in the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere at Longchamp last October.

Quinn, however, feels that race was a "bridge too far" following a tough season and believes stepping up from six furlongs to a mile, the Guineas distance, won't be a problem.

"The 2000 Guineas is his number one spring target and I think that it will be helpful to get a prep race into him beforehand, so he will probably go for the Craven Stakes or the Greenham," Quinn said.

"He should have every chance of staying a mile and he might stay further, although we will not be thinking about that until after the Guineas.

"His sire, Starspangledbanner, was a tough sort who won at up to a mile and there is plenty of stamina on the dam's side of his pedigree.

"Before his last run you would have said that he was screaming out for seven furlongs as he only got up in the last 50 yards in the Morny and he was going away at the finish in the Coventry.

"People tend to dismiss horses very quickly after just one disappointing run and, at 25-1, I think he is a big price for the Guineas.

"If he had not run at Longchamp he would be nowhere near those odds."
