JACK GARRITTY, who rode the first treble of his career at Doncaster a fortnight ago, returns to the Town Moor course today on the final day of the Flat turf season with excellent prospects of enjoying another memorable afternoon.

The Malton apprentice teams-up with the aptly-named Headline News in the closing feature, the £70,000 Betfred November Handicap and is napped to come out on top on the Rae Guest-trained mare, who faces a strong field including Latenightrequest, trained by Richard Fahey, Garritty's boss.

A short-head separated Headline News and Latenightrequest when the pair met at Haydock in August with the Musley Bank filly, ridden that day by Garritty, taking the spoils.

Headline News now has her chance of getting her revenge. She is set to meet her conqueror - a recent wide-margin winner on the track - on more than a stone better terms, taking into account the 5lb claim of Garritty, who won on her at Newmarket recently.

A whole host of horses in this valuable handicap, including David O'Meara's recent winner Open Eagle, Manhattan Swing, reverting to the Flat from hurdles for Brian Ellison and Tim Easterby's mud-loving Ardlui, boast chances in a wide-open race. But Headline News is fancied to live up to her name on behalf of rising star Garritty, who has good prospects of a double on Personal Touch in the Betfred Bingo Apprentice Handicap. The Fahey-trained gelding was a winner at Newmarket last week.

Paul Hanagan will be unable to ride Latenightrequest, or any of his other booked mounts at today's finale after breaking a collarbone in a five-horse pile-up at Wolverhampton on Thursday evening.

It may well be that Hanagan will miss at least one winner for his former boss Fahey aboard Johnny B Goode in the Betfred 'Racing's Biggest Supporter' Nursery Handicap. The juvenile is nothing if tough and consistent.

Levitate won the Beetfred Supporting Jack Berry House Handicap on this card 12 months ago and it would be no surprise to see John Quinn's gelding produce an encore.

On a course where he also won the Lincoln Handicap two years ago, Levitate will have the soft ground he loves this afternoon as he seeks to gain reward for some solid recent efforts including a fourth-placed effort at Ascot three weeks ago. Martin Harley has the mount on the Norton gelding.

York-based Robert Winston, pictured, can enjoy a useful afternoon and is fancied to kick-off with a winner on Stake Acclaim in the opening Betfred Mobile Cock O'The North Maiden Stakes.

Dean Ivory's handsome juvenile finished an excellent second in a warm race at Haydock last month. Unless one of the newcomers today is above-average, Stake Accclaim is taken to go one better.

Winston and Ivory also team-up in the Betfred 'Goals Galore' Wentworth Stakes with Tropics, whose recent runner-up effort behind Gordon Lord Byron in the Qipco Champions Day Sprint was a highly creditable effort.

Jack Dexter, narrowly behind him in third that day and winner of this race 12 months ago, and last month's York winner Spinatrix will make this Listed contest a proper test, but Tropics has what it takes to lift the prize.

At Kelso's jumps meeting, Looking Well will surely take plenty of beating in the opening George Harrow Memorial Novices' Hurdle.

Trained by Nicky Richards, whose horses are in unstoppable form, the gelding, winner of his sole outing in a bumper last season, made a promising start to his hurdling career at Ayr recently when finishing third. He looks to have a bright future and is selected to step up the mark this time.

Feature race on the card is the £15,000 Mayfield Restaurant Handicap Chase, which sees the reappearance of Firth Of The Clyde, trained at Norton by Malcolm Jefferson.

Successful at Wetherby and Market Rasen last season, the strapping nine-year-old enjoyed a good first season over fences, during which he was also narrowly beaten on this course in February. He is not to be overlooked, despite the lack of a preparatory outing and top weight to carry.

Also worth noting at the Borders course are Carlisle runner-up Brother Scott (1.05) and last month's course winner Some Lad (4.00).
