JOHN QUINN, whose brilliant unbeaten juvenile The Wow Signal travels to France on Sunday to bid for Group 1 honours at Longchamp, has smaller fish to fry at Bangor today.

It is a measure of the Ryedale trainer’s versatility that Flat and jumps come alike to him and he is particularly adept at securing horses from the Flat to go hurdling. That is very much the case with nap selection Final Countdown, who makes his debut over timber in the Avox Juvenile Hurdle.

The three-year-old was previously trained on the level by Anthony Carson at Newmarket and was the winner of two of his four starts on turf, his latest victory coming at Yarmouth in August.

Quinn likes Bangor to introduce his young hurdlers and Final Countdown has found himself starting off in a small field. Sure to have been well schooled for his debut, he is fancied to oblige at the first time of asking.

Peter Niven is no stranger to winning bumpers and his runner Windofchange is interesting in the concluding National Hunt Flat Race.

The four-year-old, a son of Scorpion, is sure to be fit enough to do himself justice.

Also worth noting at Bangor, where runners are thin on the ground, are high-class hurdler Gevrey Chambertin (2.50), switching to fences, and Bonne Fee (4.30), who has been in unstoppable form lately.

At Kempton’s Flat evening meeting, Middleham trainer Mark Johnston can make his presence felt with Life And Times in the BetVictor.com Handicap.

The six-year-old seemed to appreciate the return to all-weather racing at Wolverhampton last time out when finishing a one-length second to Fiftyshadesofred. He is fancied to go one better this time. Joe Fanning rides.

Fanning can also make his journey from North Yorkshire worthwhile by winning on Little in the £25 Free Bet At BetVictor.com Nursery Handicap.

Trained by Jamie Osborne, the juvenile came good at the third time of asking at Brighton recently.

That form was nothing to write home about, but this looks a run of the mill handicap and, off a mark of 69, Little promises to make a bold bid.

Peace Accord, runner-up at Pontefract last week, has won two of his four races on all-weather courses.

He reverts to an artificial surface in the Follow @BetVictorRacing On Twitter Handicap and is aiming for his fourth win from five outings this season for Newmarket trainer Michael Wigham.

Also worth noting are Clergyman (7.45), who is expected to appreciate the step up to six furlongs after finishing third over the minimum trip at Beverley on his latest start, and Reaffirmed (8.45), who came good at Wolverhampton last time.

Santa force

TELESCOPE is reported to be in fine form as he gears up for the Breeders’ Cup Turf at Santa Anita on November 1.

The four-year-old was last seen finishing third in the Juddmonte International at York but had previously won the Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot before chasing home Taghrooda in the King George.

Telescope, who is owned by Highclere Thoroughbred Racing and trained by Sir Michael Stoute, has been given a spell on the easy list since that York run but connections are now looking forward to their American adventure.

An update on www.highclereracing.co.uk read: “He will no doubt relish every yard of the mile and a half at Santa Anita on ground that is usually fairly quick.”
