Who is going to come out on top in the race of the golden oldies at Doncaster today?

The Clipper Logistics Leger Legends, the only charity race run under the rules of racing, and confined to retired professional jockeys, has attracted a maximum 16-strong field and a whole host of well-known names.

Kevin Darley, Dale Gibson and Ollie Pears, well-known names in these parts, have chances, as do last year's winner and runner-up, Willie Supple and Gay Kelleway.

But it could well be George Duffield and Michael Hills, two Classic-winning riders of yesteryear, who could fight out the finish of this £10,000 event which is in aid of Jack Berry House and Northern Racing College.

The evergreen Duffield, who is more than 60-years-old rides Tiger Cliff, a course winner over seven furlongs before finishing second dropped down a furlong at Newcastle on his latest run.

Jim Goldie's charge is open to further improvement, especially now stepping up to a mile. He is napped to score for Duffield, a past winner of this race, probably at the main expense of Hills' mount Dansili Dutch, trained by David O'Meara, and narrowly beaten on her two starts since winning at Hamilton.

The race will be a trip down memory lane for many racegoers and punters and, as previously, promises to be the highlight of the opening day of the St Leger Festival.

The £40,000 John Smith's Original Scarbrough Stakes is the most valuable race on the card and Online Alexander could prove a surprise package for North Yorkshire trainer Kevin Ryan, who intends to saddle his Dante Stakes and French Derby winner and Juddmonte International runner-up The Grey Gatsby in Saturday's Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown.

Online Alexander has made giant strides lately. She won at Glorious Goodwood and has since followed-up on the final day of the Ebor Festival at York. Both those races were handicaps and Online Alexander faces much stiffer rivals in this Listed contest, but she is in such great heart that it is not beyond the realms of possibility that she can figure in the shake-up. Jamie Spencer rides.

Paul Hanagan could enjoy a bright start to the four-day meeting. He can land the Irish Stallion Farms Conditions Stakes on the tough and talented Markaz, a winner at Ascot on his penultimate start before going down by half-a-length to the useful Son Of Africa at Glorious Goodwood.

In the Romero Insurance Brokers Ltd Handicap, Hanagan teams-up with Marmoom, winner of two of his last three starts at Newmarket. He is climbing up the ratings, but he is clearly going the right way.

Westow trainer Paul Midgley has snapped-up Hanagan to ride Adam's Ale in the concluding Magical Moments On Canvas Handicap. Scuppered by an unfavourable draw at Thirsk last time, Adam's Ale has previously been narrowly denied at Ripon. He is well drawn this afternoon and should not be left out of calculations.

Richard Fahey's lightly-weighted Stardrifter (2-00) and the useful Clon Brulee (4-10) are two others to note.

At Carlisle, the £12,000 Comlongton Handicap takes pride of place and Bold Prediction may take his revenge on Bartack following their recent meeting at Ripon.

There was only a length between the pair on that occasion and, on 3lb better terms, Bold Prediction has every chance of turning the tables. Joey Haynes again has the mount on Karl Burke's gelding.

William Of Orange will be a popular choice among punters in the racinguk.com Handicap.

Trained by Sir Mark Prescott and typically brought along slowly, the strapping three-year-old came good at Haydock last week when stepping up to this distance of one and three-quarter miles for the first time and producing a powerful staying display. He will be hard to beat, despite a 6lb penalty.

The promising Intruder (2.20) and recent course winner Remember Rocky (2.50) are a couple of others worth watching.
