KEVIN RYAN, who has booked Richard Hughes to ride The Grey Gatsby in tomorrow's £800,000 Juddmonte International, the richest race ever staged at York, is chasing significantly smaller fry today when he sends two runners on the long haul to Yarmouth.

The North Yorkshire trainer has identified suitable targets at the seaside course for both Keep To The Beat and Red Paladin, both of whom will be partnered by Jamie Spencer.

Keep To The Beat runs in the Conferences At Great Yarmouth Racecourse Maiden Handicap and may find opportunity knocking in this modest contest.

The three-year-old has been knocking on the door in his last three races and is overdue a winning turn. He may find it here.

Likewise Red Paladin, who lines up in the Weddings At Great Yarmouth Racecourse Handicap.

A winner at Doncaster on his penultimate start, Red Paladin has since run well at Leicester. He should be competitive once again.

Ryan has an exciting week ahead. Apart from The Grey Gatsby, already the winner this season of York's Dante Stakes and the French Derby, the Hambleton trainer will also saddle his ace sprinters Astaire and Hot Streak in the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes. His two Yarmouth raiders can put Ryan in winning step for the days ahead.

Also worth noting at Yarmouth are the promising Normanna (2.00) and course-and-distance winner Jonnie Skull (5.05), who will have the assistance of in-form Norton rider Joe Doyle in the concluding apprentice race. Doyle won a major handicap at Chester on Saturday on Top Of The Glas to gain the biggest success of his fledgling career.

At Leicester, Day Of The Eagle is napped to score for Mick Easterby in the Heineken Extra Cold Handicap.

The eight-year-old finished a creditable fourth at Haydock last time over a mile. He will benefit from reverting to seven furlongs here and, with Graham Gibbons taking over from a 7lb claimer, he is fancied to come good off a favourable handicap rating.

Malton jockey Jason Hart will also be in action at Leicester to be reunited with Ridge Ranger in the Strongbow Bitter Sweet Classic Handicap.

The Eric Alston-trained three-year-old made a winning debut at Hamilton at the beginning of the month. There was a lot to like about that performance and although Ridge Ranger has a stiffer task here, a bold bid is anticipated.

Flying Cape may be the answer to the Foster's Super Chilled Handicap.

Andrew Hollinshead's three-year-old suffered a nightmare run when finishing a close-up third at Pontefract last time out. He should be given the chance to gain compensation. Royston Ffrench takes the mount.
