TWO horses who finished second at York a couple of weeks ago, can promote themselves to the number one slot at Redcar this afternoon.

Green Howard and Mon Brav represent Robin Bastiman and Brian Ellison respectively and both have leading claims after their Knavesmire efforts.

It is some time since Green Howard last visited the winners' enclosure, but he took a step in the right direction on his latest start when coming off the pace to chase home Anderiego over today's distance of a mile.

Jason Hart, in the saddle on that occasion, again takes the mount this afternoon in the Download The RacingUK IPad App Handicap Qualifier. He is entitled to go well on a course where he has been successful in the past.

Mon Brav ran a remarkable race last time. Over six furlongs at York, he was quickly out with the washing at the tail of the field, but he picked up ground with a vengeance in the closing stages to finish second to Arctic Feeling.

Ellison, pictured, steps Mon Brav up to seven furlongs in today's Market Cross Jewellers Handicap. He should give Paul Pickard a good ride.

Glorious Sun, who made a fairly promising debut at Newmarket three weeks ago, should be able to make his impression felt in the Follow Redcar Racing On Facebook & Twitter Maiden Stakes, while Burren View Lady has every chance of clinching the Win A VIP Day Out At redcarracing.co.uk Handicap. Tim Easterby placed Burren View Lady to win at Thirsk recently. That was her first win on turf to go with her trio of all-weather successes. There could be more to come from her.

The richest race of the day takes place at Haydock in the shape of the £63,000 Rose Of Lancaster Stakes which offers Hillstar a good opportunity to bring to an end a frustrating run of near-misses.

Sir Michael Stoute's colt went down narrowly to Cavalryman in the Group 2 Prince Of Wales's Stakes at Newmarket last time out. A reproduction of that performance will make him very hard to beat in this Group 3 contest. Ryan Moore takes the mount.

Stoute and Moore could be the combination to follow throughout the afternoon at Haydock. They can also click with Provenance, winner of two of his three starts, in the Betfred 'Double Delight' Handicap.

In the Betfred Dick Hern Fillies' Stakes, Lightning Thunder takes a drop in class in a bid to get her head in front.

Ollie Stevens' three-year-old finished second in both the English and Irish 1,000 Guineas before flopping in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot.

This Listed event should help in putting her back in the winning groove.

However Ellison fares with his runners at Redcar, the Norton trainer has a fine chance with Llarnamon Lad in the Betfred Goals Galore Handicap.

The five-year-old was a winner over ten furlongs at Newmarket two starts ago, but he had to settle for third behind stablemate Balty Boys on the same course last time over a mile.

The return to ten furlongs this afternoon should give Llarnamon Lad a winning chance and he is awarded the nap vote.
