Danny Tudhope, due to travel to Dubai later in the week to ride at Saturday’s World Cup meeting, can shine on a much more lowly stage at Southwell tomorrow.

The North Yorkshire jockey teams up with Royal Holiday in the opening 32 Bonus At 32Red.com Handicap and is napped to hit the mark on the gelding, trained at Stillington by Marjorie Fife.

Royal Holiday made a spirited bid on this course last week and was only narrowly denied by Blades Lad, beaten by a neck.

A previous winner over this course and distance, Royal Holiday is selected to go one better for Tudhope, who is in for an exciting week.

Not only is he preparing to renew his association with Penitent, on whom he won two Group 2 races last season, in Dubai’s Godolphin Mile, he is also short-listed for Flat Ride of the Year – aboard Doc Hay in last season’s Portland Handicap at Doncaster – in Thursday’s PJA Lesters Awards Dinner at Birmingham’s Metropole Hotel.

He is up against fellow northern riders, Freddie Tylicki and Mick O’Connell, as well as champion jockey Richard Hughes.

Graham Lee, who is among the final quartet nominated for Flat Jockey of the Year at the Lesters, teams up with Jacobs Son in the Rose Stockley 80th Birthday Celebration Handicap.

Lee steered the Robert Mills-trained five-year-old to a workmanlike victory on this course a fortnight ago.

Jacobs Son had previously scored at Lingfield and is a horse in excellent form at the moment.

He may just have the edge over his rivals, which include Lexington Bay, who will relish this longer distance after his recent solid effort over a mile and a half at Wolverhampton.

Kevin Ryan will be hoping that Moe’s Place can make it third time lucky in the 32Red.com Handicap over seven furlongs.

Moe’s Place has finished second in both his starts this season, most recently on this course over six furlongs. This longer trip may suit Philip Makin’s mount even better.

Thorpe Bay and Fairy Wings were involved in a thrilling finish here on Saturday when Fairy Wings clinched the verdict by a whisker.

The placings may be reversed this time with Thorpe Bay getting the vote over Fairy Wings, who is burdened with a 6lb penalty.

The two maiden races on the card look fairly weak affairs and Newmarket trainer David Simcock can land both with India’s Song and Sian Gwalia.

The mounts of Martin Lane, India’s Song was narrowly beaten when a hot favourite at Lingfield last month, while Sian Gwalia showed definite signs of promise on her debut at Wolverhampton a couple of weeks ago.

At Lingfield today, Norton jockey Tom Eaves can make his long journey worthwhile by winning on Red Mystique in the ‘TK’ Brennan You Will Be Missed Handicap.

The four-year-old, who has been running well in defeat for some time, is trained by former jump jockey Philip Hide, whose first winner since switching codes earlier in the winter was ridden by Eaves.

Hopefully, a similar outcome will take place with Red Mystique, who is awarded the nap vote.

York-based jockey Robert Winston has good prospects of winning the opening selling race on Prince Of Burma.

West Leake, a course winner last month, looks sure to go well in the Demelza House Childrens Hospice Handicap with Liam Keniry in the saddle.
