MALTON & Norton's York Minster Engineering League disappointment was compounded on Monday night at they rounded off their relegation season with a 4-3 defeat at Tadcaster Magnets.
As reported, defeat on Saturday to relegation rivals Sporting Knavesmire had ensured the Ryedale side would finish second-bottom of the premier division and face the drop, subject to a league annual general meeting ballot over the consequences of Pocklington Town 2nds’ inability to be promoted from division one.
Will Deakin, Jack Overton and substitute Marlon Bentley, plus an own goal, were on target for Magnets, who also had a man-of-the-match performance from goalkeeper Jake Daubney to deny M&N any further consolation.
Old Malton St Mary's and Dunnington also completed their campaigns on Monday night - Dunnington winning 3-2 to end the season in sixth place. St Mary's, who have long since been guaranteed the runners-up place behind champions Wigginton Grasshoppers, lost 3-2 at home to Dunnington.
These games complete the YMEL league season. Final league tables will be in tomorrow's (Wednesday's) print edition.
