THE York Minster Engineering League premier division title race continues to hang in the balance as both Wigginton Grasshoppers and Old Malton St Mary's registered wins ahead of their showdown on April 21.

Wigginton avoided a potential banana skin, dispatching bogey side Osbaldwick 2-0 to maintain their 11-point lead at the top.

Eddy Clapham and Matthew Tiplady got the goals, scoring in the first five minutes of the respective halves.

St Mary's, meanwhile, fought off a determined challenge from relegation-threatened Sporting Knavesmire, eventually winning with the only goal of the game.

They have three games in hand on the Hoppers so the title remains in their hands.

Elsewhere, F1 Racing came from behind three times to secure a point against Huntington Rovers, the final equaliser coming with the last kick of a dramatic match - a thunderous 30-yard free kick from Liam King.

Rovers had taken the lead initially with a free-kick of their own via Jon James, but a flowing move saw Chris Dempsey sweep home a pinpoint cross from Toby Fisher.

Another James free-kick saw Rovers go into the break with a 2-1 advantage, but Dempsey levelled again after the restart.

F1 were reduced to 10 men with 30 minutes remaining and, after chances came and went at both ends, it looked like Rovers would take the points when they were awarded a penalty, only to see the spot-kick brilliantly saved by George Bellerby in the F1 goal.

With two minutes remaining, Huntington again looked to have sealed the points when James struck his third goal of the game, only for King's effort to restore parity at the final whistle.

Tadcaster Magnets got a second win on the bounce, seeing off bottom team York RI 4-2, to pull three points clear of the drop zone.

Tom Charlesworth hit a hat-trick with Andrew Kitchen adding the fourth. Darren Sellars hit a brace in reply for RI.

Dave Watson and James Green were on target for Dringhouses as they gained a 2-1 success at Poppleton United, while Josh Gill, Adrian Wood and Craig Rowden fired Hemingbrough United to a 3-2 triumph over Church Fenton. Matthew Howgate and Jonathan Hadley responded for the visitors.

With Thorpe United already promoted to the premier division, the race for second spot is now the focus of the other teams at the upper end of division one.

Pocklington Town are currently in the driving seat for that position and continued their good form with a 1-0 win at Tockwith.

Kirkbymoorside and Rawcliffe continue to be closely matched in third and fourth, though, and the former did their goal difference the power of good with a 7-1 home success over Wilberfoss.

Jonathan Brown (2), Jack Dowson, Joe Harland, Chris Hodgson, Matt Bower and Jermaine Tansey all made the scoresheet with Oliver Peck bagging the Foss consolation.

Niall Smallwood collected his fifth hat-trick of the season for Rawcliffe as they defeated Harrison Signs 4-2.

The visitors' fourth came courtesy of Dale Holding, with Jake Brassie and Wayne Turner netting for Signs.

Oliver Longbottom, Josh Sargent and Gavin Macek struck for Easingwold Town in a 3-1 win over Riccall United.
