TADCASTER Albion are gearing up for one of the “biggest games of the season” tomorrow when they travel to Colne in the Evo-Stik League north.

Both sides sit just outside the play-off places, the Brewers in seventh and Colne ninth, level on games played with just one point between them.

The last time these sides met, Chris Howarth, Aiden Savory and Tom Corner struck in the second half to see Taddy overturn a two-goal deficit and take all three points in a 3-2 victory.

Colne have won all but five of their 15 games since the turn of the year, with one of their four defeats coming last week in a 2-1 loss at home to 14th-placed Ossett Town.

Taddy still harbour hopes of breaking back into the potential promotion spots after a thumping 5-0 win over high-fliers Bamber Bridge last Saturday gave them a confidence boost.

Hull City loanee Will Annan had a hand in three of the second-half goals, twice finishing from mazy runs before setting up the fifth with an unselfish lay-off for Harry Sheppeard from inside the area.

Despite three consecutive losses against Trafford, Prescot Cables and Hyde United, the Brewers are within touching distance of their goal, six points behind sixth place with a game in hand.

Club spokesman Jay Taylor said: “It was a fantastic result, and probably one not a lot of people saw coming with Bamber Bridge’s recent form.

“The first half was drab but the second half burst into life.

“Annan was a great addition off the bench. He’s certainly a special player. He gets on the ball, he knows what he wants to do and he gets the crowd going.

“Colne is probably one of our biggest games of the season. They’re flying at the moment and up there in the form table with Atherton.

“They’re a great side and their manager Steve Cunningham is doing an unbelievable job. We had a fantastic tussle with them earlier in the season which ended in a dramatic 3-2 win to us.

“Their pitch is a tough one to play on. They’ll be up for it and their fans will be up for it, but we’ll be confident after Saturday. All it takes is a couple of results and we’re back in the play-off places.

“The lads will be bang up for it – it should be a great game.

“We’ve had a poor run of form – with Trafford it was a mistake that led to their goal and Prescot nicked it at the end – but it all came flooding back in the second half last week and the result has put us back on the up.

“There’s still a lot of football to be played and there will be plenty of ups and downs for every team.

“If we can pick up points from these games, it’ll leave us in brilliant stead for Radcliffe next week.”

Albion were at home to third-placed Scarborough Athletic last night.

The high-flying Seadogs are five points off the summit having played a game more than leaders South Shields.

Tomorrow, Boro visit basement side Goole AFC who last week earned their first points in five attempts with a 3-1 at Kendal Town.

National League North high-fliers Harrogate Town travel to Bootham Crescent tomorrow to face York City.
