THE big freeze over the weekend led to the postponement of most of the York Minster Engineering League fixture programme - along with their representative team's Inter-League FA Cup game against the Chester & Wirral League.

A few games did survive the frost, though, with Riccall United getting the better of a seven-goal thriller to defeat their hosts Brooklyn 4-3 and move up to fifth in division one.

An own goal allied to strikes from Oli O'Neill, Yves Kombe and Tommy Butterfield saw them across the line.

Two games were given the green light in division four. Wheldrake's James Smith and Ben Tunningley netted for the home side but they were sunk 4-2 by second-placed Elm Park. Meanwhile, Reece Chapman struck twice for Pollington as they collected a point from a 2-2 draw at Swinton.

In reserve 'A', second-placed Pocklington Town Reserves closed the gap on leaders Wigginton Grasshoppers Reserves after winning 3-1 at Thorpe United.

Hemingbrough United Reserves enjoyed a 5-1 success over Easingwold Town Reserves thanks to efforts from Luke Zacharenko, Tom Collins, Ricki Hutton, Craig Haythorne and Liam Tomlinson.

In reserve 'B', Dringhouses Reserves were 3-0 up at half-time away to Harrison Signs Reserves thanks to a brace from Sam Lake and a Liam Robertson goal.

Cameron Loftus and Rob Hutton notched for the visitors in the second half as they won the game 5-1.

Joe Longstaff's penalty was little more than a consolation for Cliffe as they went down 3-1 to Malt Shovel in Reserve 'C'.

The rep team's Inter-League tie has been rearranged for next Saturday.

A coach will leave Copmanthorpe Recreation Club at 10am on Saturday morning for the game at Cammel Laird's Ground (3pm). Anyone wanting to travel with the team should phone 01653 489002 or 07511 250045 to reserve a seat.
