THE York Minster Engineering League premier division kicked off on Saturday.

And it didn't take long for the first shock result to be registered as Old Malton St Mary's, champions in three of the last six seasons, were put to the sword by a new-look F1 Racing team.

Alex Martin struck a last-minute winner to seal a dramatic 4-3 victory for the New Earswick- based side.

The game was played at a frantic pace throughout, and Malton moved into a 2-0 lead within 20 minutes, with Tich Mashumba firing the first from the penalty spot before Jonah Tomlin-Kent bagged a poacher's goal to double the lead.

St Mary's, sparked into action, then asserted themselves for the remainder of the half, scoring three goals to take the lead as F1 failed to cope with their set-pieces and long throws.

However, F1 regrouped at half-time and finally levelled when Martin swept home a great cross from Jason McCloud in the 75th minute.

With both sides seeking a winner, the best chance fell to F1, who went agonisingly close when Mashumba's strike rattled off the underside of the bar.

With the deadlock looking increasingly unlikely to be broken, Tomlin-Kent found Martin, who made no mistake with the finish to secure F1 their first points against the Malton side.

Defending champions Wigginton Grasshoppers got off to a flying start with an 8-1 home success over newly-promoted Hemingbrough United.

Eddy Clapham took just four minutes to register his first goal of the season, heading home a loose clearance from ten yards.

Three minutes later, the winger doubled his tally, heading home again, this time from a Neale Holmes corner.

Michael Clancy was then called into action to make an excellent save from 'Brough's Iain Blackburn before Matthew Tiplady pounced on a stray backpass, making it 3-0 in the tenth minute.

Shortly afterwards, the visitors were back in the game, with Blackburn running the ball past the Wigginton defence before firing home.

Holmes then played Jamie Willstrop through, and he showed excellent footwork to round the goalkeeper and stroke the ball into the net.

Things then went from bad to worse for 'Brough, who found themselves 5-1 and a man down after Gary Newton bagged a penalty following a dismissal for handball.

Newton then turned provider on the stroke of half-time, playing in Willstrop, who guided the ball into the far corner of the goal for his second.

The second half saw much less action, though the sides were back level in terms of players in the 55th minute when a Wigginton player received a red card for violent conduct.

Eddy Clapham completed his hat-trick with a penalty with a quarter of an hour remaining, before Tiplady ran onto a Holmes through ball to make it 8-1 in the dying minutes.

Huntington Rovers scored a convincing win over Sporting Knavesmire.

George Brown fired the ball into the bottom corner early in the first half before the evergreen Chris Dyson headed home a Tom Metcalfe cross to make it 2-0.

Before the break, the result was confirmed when Josh Whaite headed the ball back across goal for his centre-back partner Steve Jarman to slot home.

Despite Sporting's best efforts in the second half, the only goal of the period went Rovers' way, courtesy of a Knavesmire defender, rounding off a comfortable 4-0 triumph.

Division One champions Poppleton United chalked up their first point after holding Osbaldwick to a 1-1 draw.

Reece Holmes struck for Poppy, with Dan Davidson replying for Osso.

Kingsley Daffern netted for Malton & Norton as they played out an evenly-contested first half with Copmanthorpe, who had led through a Terry Hibbert goal.

However, Cop proved stronger in the second period, with goals from Daniel Pedras, Olly Baron (2) and Jake Green securing a 5-1 win.

Dringhouses got the better of their Acomb derby at York RI.

Jordan Outerbridge fired 'Houses ahead with a delightful free-kick before Dave Melody levelled the scores, with Liam Robertson restoring the visitors' lead before the interval.

A penalty from Sam Lake and an 89th-minute effort from Sam Drake put the icing on a 4-1 victory for Dringhouses.

Jake Barber scored a late goal for Tadcaster Magnets at home to Dunnington, but it proved to be little more than a consolation as the away side triumphed 3-1.

Veteran Rob Hart, debutant Craig Theaker and Callum Richardson netted for the away side.
