YORK City Ladies celebrated another trophy winning season at the club’s annual awards night.

Midfielder Nikki Brown was crowned Players’ Player of the Year while the versatile Jess Barnes was named as Manager’s Player of the Year having featured in goal for the vast majority of the campaign.

Megan Bramham won the leading goalscorer award after scoring 14 times including nine in the final seven games of the season.

There was also recognition for the City Ladies reserve team with vice-captain Gemma Croft awarded the Players’ Player of the Year and Ellie Randall scooping the Manager’s Player of the Year after scoring 20 goals and grabbing four goals on three separate occasions.

However, top goalscorer for the Minsterbelles reserves was Sophie Tinson who finished with a superb tally of 22 goals in her debut season with the club.

Both teams made it into the North Riding FA County Cup final with the seniors winning the Cup for a record seventh time, albeit on penalties.

The club is now on the look-out for new players and will be holding trials at Haxby Road 3G pitch, York St John University, on the following dates; Wednesday June 21 (evening), Sunday June 25 (afternoon), and Wednesday June 28 (evening).

Reserve team Players’ Player of the year Croft said: “I’d say to anyone thinking about joining York City to come down to a training session. Everyone is really friendly and welcoming and will make you feel at ease. I’m really glad I did.”

Teenager defender Martha Ohr, meanwhile, said: “For players of a similar age to me (18), wanting to get involved with football, I would definitely say: just give it a go.”
