DUNNINGTON won the York FA Senior Cup Final thanks to a penalty shoot-out victory over Sporting Knavesmire at Tockwith FC.

The two clubs cancelled each other out during the opening 20 minutes although Dunnington’s Jonny Andrew’s 20 yard shot nearly caught out goalkeeper George Catling.

Dunnington gave away several freekicks in the middle of the field but Sporting failed to make them count.

Sporting's Dan Owers nearly broke the deadlock with a 20 yard screamer and Andrew Simpson rattled the Dunnington crossbar as halftime approached.

A Samson Wildwood shot brought a good save from Sporting goalkeeper Catling.

Dunnington created more opportunities in the second half but Angus Richardson blazed the ball over the bar from six yards out.

Wildwood wasted a similar chance for Sporting who had Catling to thank for a string of one handed saves late on which took the game to a penalty shoot-out.

Dunnington's players held their nerve to win 5-4 on penalties and receive the Trophy, sponsored by Keal Teamwear, which was presented by York FA President Roy Ellwood.

The Arnold Myers Award for services to York and District Refereeing was presented by FA secretary Barry Casterton to Geoff Hartley for his work in running the York Referees Academy and mentoring and co-ordinating the assessment of referees.
