CHAMPIONS Thorpe United Under-12s Blues completed a wonderful trophy treble on the hallowed turf of Bootham Crescent.

Thorpe had already lifted the York & Ryedale Mitchell U12s League first division title after going through the campaign unbeaten - winning 17 and drawing one of their 18 games.

Then followed success in the York FA U12s Junior Cup when they beat league runners-up Heworth Yellows 2-0 in final at Poppleton.

And finally they claimed the U12s League Cup after edging third division winners Brooklyn U12s 1-0 at York City's home ground on Thursday night.

They came close to a quadruple success, too, having been pipped 1-0 by Garforth Junior League outfit Collingham in the final of the Barkston Ash FA U12s Cup at Selby Town's ground.

In the York FA U12s Cup final, Aydon Smith gave Thorpe a spectacular lead when his overhead kick found the back of the Heworth net inside 60 seconds.

End-to-end football then followed with clinical passing throughout the next 25 minutes, Thorpe coming closest to scoring as a goalmouth scramble was cleared off the Heworth line three times in quick succession.

Thorpe also pressured most at the start of the second half but Heworth almost levelled on 35 minutes as Oliver Darley forced a fine one-handed save from keeper Harry McGuire.

Thorpe then secured their success as Tommy Cahill turned and fired into the top corner from 20 yards out.

The trophy, sponsored by Construction Marine Ltd, was presented by York FA member James Unwin.

In Thursday's League Cup final at Bootham Crescent, Kieran Clayton was the goal-scoring hero, heading home at the back post following a corner in the second half.

Thorpe had hit the woodwork a couple of times, while the Brooklyn keeper pulled off a couple of cracking saves, but the Ryedale side also had a couple of chances, McGuire tipping one shot onto a post to keep them out.

After the goal, Brooklyn pushed for an equaliser but Thorpe defended well and could have upped their lead on the break.

A mazy run by Jack Maeer all the way from his own defence to the other end almost brought another goal only he pulled his shot wide.

The team are managed by Mark Cahill and coached by Andrew Newlove and John Kelsey. Cahill said: "It's been a great season for the boys and was a real team effort."
