RESULTS in the York Minster Engineering League premier division did not go the way of relegation threatened Riccall United at the weekend.

Both Copmanthorpe and Tadcaster Magnets were victorious as they both made last-ditch efforts to secure top-flight status.

Copmanthorpe led Malton & Norton at half-time through a Mark Featherstone goal, and the player doubled his tally in the second half. Robin Bedford rounded off a much needed 3-0 win late in the game.

Tadcaster Magnets also upset the formbook, defeating Sporting Knavesmire 3-1.

Thomas Marshall and Adam Udakis gave Magnets a two-goal advantage before Michael Eddom pulled one back for the visitors.

A Tom Charlesworth effort sealed the points for the Tadcaster side and kept them level on points with Cop, with both sides two points clear of 2015 champions, Riccall.

Magnets will play our their final game at home to top-of-the-table Wigginton Grasshoppers on Wednesday knowing that a win will guarantee survival. Anything other than that will leave them looking for the results of Copmanthorpe versus Huntington Rovers and Riccall against York RI on Saturday.

Wigginton showed no signs of stopping as they played out a 6-1 success at York RI.

Luke Addison headed them in front after 30 minutes only for Ben Jones to level up ten minutes later.

From the restart though, 'Hoppers were back in front with Addison completing his brace with a clinical effort, before Neale Holmes added a third from the edge of the area just before half-time.

Addison notched his hat-trick after the restart before experienced midfielders Gary Newton and Terry Taylor produced neat finishes late in the game to complete the scoring.

Old Malton St Mary's guaranteed themselves a top three finish with a 2-1 win at home to Dringhouses. Dunnington stole fifth place from Sporting Knavesmire after defeating Church Fenton White Horse 3-1.

* F1 RACING progressed to the next round of the League Senior Cup with a 6-0 win at Brooklyn.

Alex Martin gave them a 1-0 half-time lead and Chris Dempsey scored early in the second period to calm their nerves. Another Dempsey goal and a season's first for Dale Lumley added to Max Tweddle's first two goals for the club.

In the League Junior Cup, strikes from Gavin Macek and Tom Rushworth (2) gave Easingwold Town a 3-1 triumph over Haxby United.
