A STOPPAGE-TIME stunner from Benny Igiehon sent Scarborough Athletic wild in their North Yorkshire derby with Tadcaster Albion - firing them into the play-off places in Evo-Stik League division one north.

Hero Igiehom, who had scored twice in Boro's crucial 3-0 win at Bamber Bridge on Saturday, got an even more vital Easter goal in this Bank Holiday Monday clash when, with 95 minutes on the clock, he fired through a crowd of bodies into the top corner.

It snatched a 1-0 win in the Seadogs' last league game in Bridlington before they move to their new home back in Scarborough next season, and, allied to results elsewhere, means they now hold fifth spot in the table with one game to go.

It was cruel on a Tadcaster side who had battled gamely throughout, with Matt Heath, having not played all season, using his experience to organise his fellow defenders, while captain for the day Josh Barrett made several crucial blocks and interceptions.

However, for the coastal side it was a deserved three points which kept their promotion hopes alive.

The home side threatened early on with Igiehon pulling back to Jacob Hazel, whose close-range shot was saved by Chandler Hallwood.

Scarborough were a little lucky to escape when keeper Joe Green dropped an Armstrong free-kick, but back at the other end the diminutive Cam Murray drove forward only for Craig Nelthorpe to fire over.

Taddy went close just before the hour mark after a positive surge forward from Fatlum Ibrahimi, his cross from the right going out to Dan Thirkell who blasted over.

Hazel also lobbed off target and Liam Shepherd sidefooted on target, either side of a chance at the other end in which Matty Turnbull headed straight at Hallwood.

The game was fiercely fought and threatened to boil over in the last quarter as Scarborough pressed for the winner.

Igiehon headed wide and saw a fierce strike well saved by Hallwood, with the Seadogs almost scrambling the ball over the line from the resulting corner.

But the striker did have the final say in the thrilling stoppage-time finale, meaning victory at Colwyn Bay on Saturday will secure Scarborough's top-five place, in a five-team race for the last play-off spot.
