YORK Under 11’s Schoolboys defeated Sheffield 8-2 last weekend to extend their unbeaten league run to eleven games, including only one draw.

It was by far and away York’s most impressive performance of the season and nobody could have predicted such an emphatic result against a highly-rated Sheffield side.

York had gone 1-0 down inside the first five minutes however, they dominated after that and scored goal-after-goal to lead 5-1 at the interval.

Looking fast and efficient, York were ruthless in front of goal with Ronnie Kelly, Liam Mainprize, Adam Clarkson and Ben Myers all getting on the scoresheet.

Sheffield came out of their halftime team talk with renewed determination and, as a result, the second period was a tightly contested affair.

Both teams scored a goal - Sheffield’s was a powerful header and York’s was a fierce Jamie Hudson strike into the far corner of the net.

York continued to push for goals because a 'mini league' comprising the top five teams from the original league could yet be decided on goal difference.

Mainprize scored the penultimate goal by robbing the ball from the feet of the Sheffield goalkeeper and sliding it into the empty net.

Kelly got the eighth with a tidy finish from a corner.

It was a superb day for the Under 11’s which was full of positives.

Noah Morgan adjusted well to a new position and was unlucky not to score on two occasions, Kelly impressed with his hat trick and overall performance, and Paul Iggulden stood out in defence.

Fraser Clarke's passing created a number of opportunities and York’s energetic and combative central midfield pairing of Adam Clarkson and Liam Mainprize were also on top form.
