IT was cup week in the Fastpack Ltd York Sunday Morning League – with both Junior and Senior Cup games being contested.

In the Senior Cup, last year's finalists faced up against one another, but Wigginton came out on top to knock out the current holders and progress to the semi-finals.

Grasshoppers had a tough game with York Nomads Society but managed to win 6-2 with a fine display.

Jamie Green put Wigginton in front after just three minutes, firing in off the crossbar. Jamie Willstrop doubled Grasshoppers' lead with a volley, and he bagged his brace with Wigginton’s third before half-time.

James Edmond scored Nomads' opening goal heading into the break.

Tom Derbyshire, Green and Harry Clapham netted Wigginton’s goals in the second half, along with an own goal from Wigginton, to complete the scoring.

A very close game between Thorpe United and Marcia Bishopthorpe had to be decided on penalties.

Thorpe had a 2-1 lead going into half-time, but Marcia levelled the scoring with the game eventually finishing 3-3 after 90 minutes.

An additional 30 minutes of play still couldn’t settle the game, so it came down to the dreaded spot-kicks. Thorpe managed to keep their cool and progress through to the semi-finals, winning 4-3 on penalties.

Division one leaders Malt Shovel continued their winning ways by knocking out Hounds.

The game was very tight throughout, with Malt leading 1-0 at half-time and eventually winning 2-1 to go through to the last four.

Josh Brigham and Derry Robson helped Shovel to the win, while Christopher Jackson scored Hounds' goal.

Bubwith won their quarter-final clash against Brayton 5-2. Kyle Wilks and Damien Steblecki were the scorers for Brayton.

Local rivals York Medics and Wentworth faced off in the Junior Cup. Medics came out the 5-0 victors, with Matthew Fortnam bagging a brace, and Jack Buchanan, Gulliver Bates and Daniel McNorton also helping Medics progress.

It required extra-time to split Elmpark and Rawcliffe Crusaders. The scores were level 1-1 after 90 minutes but Elmpark showed their skill to score three goals in extra-time to win 4-1.

Finlay Scott bagged a brace, while Josh Patten and Ellis Turbine also scored for Elmpark.

Finally, Hambleton brushed aside Beeswing with a comfortable 7-0 scoreline.
