THE Ryedale-based newitts.com Beckett League are looking for new referees and, in a bid to increase the numbers taking up the whistle, are offering to pay the course fees for anyone interested.
League chiefs are asking for anyone over 16 - be they players, non-players, former players or those coming to the end of their playing days - to get involved.
And, if they register with the North Riding County FA to take a referees' course before the end of this season in either York or Scarborough, the Beckett League will pay the £130 fee, provided the person qualifies and agrees to referee solely in that league for at least two years.
To register, phone the North Riding FA's referee department on 01642 717774.
Meanwhile, York Referees' Association hold their monthly meeting tomorrow at the NHS Sports and Social Club, in White Cross Road, off Haxby Road, starting at 7.30pm.
The guest will be ex-referee and now senior coach to Premier League match officials, Eddie Wolstenholme. All are welcome.
