TADCASTER Albion marked the opening of the town’s new bridge last week by beating Bamber Bridge 2-1.

Second-half goals from Josh Greening and Jonathan Greening gave the Brewers back-to-back home wins in Evo-Stik Division One North for the first time since September.

Billy Miller’s side, who showed only one change in the shape of former York City man Jonathan Greening, went behind just eight minutes into the contest.

Divots came up at the i2i Stadium from the first whistle, and Michael Potts’ left-footed drive caught one, veering off the surface past powerless goalkeeper Chandler Hallwood.

Albion took control of the game after conceding and didn’t give it up at any stage. Midway through the first half, Jonathan Greening’s effort struck the bar, while striker Tom Corner had a good shout for a penalty turned down when he was caught in a headlock by a defender.

The visitors frustrated Tadcaster before half-time but could barely get near them on the resumption.

In the first moments of the second half, Corner stabbed narrowly wide when Rob Youhill found him with an early cross, and Dan Thirkell headed past the far post from a swerving Conor Sellars delivery.

The Brewers were level in the 47th minute as Josh Greening latched on to a hooked through ball, nicked in ahead of defender Phil Doughty and finished confidently with his left foot.

Jordan Armstrong nearly put his side in front from Thirkell’s good ball before Corner stumbled in the box with a Josh Grant cross sitting up neatly in front of him.

The tempo dropped for ten minutes but the hosts used this to go in front on 73 minutes.

Josh Greening dug out a cutback on the byline that dropped straight into the path of Jonathan Greening, perfectly placed to slot home from a central position 12 yards out.

Bridge’s attempts to mount a late comeback didn’t amount to much at all, however, with a Josh Heaton header on target, while Adam Dodd gave Hallwood work to do with a driven cross. The win moved Albion up a place to 15th.
