York Schoolboys U13 opened 2017 with a 4-0 league victory away to Wakefield.

Lewis Humphreys opened the scoring after five minutes when rising to head home a cross from Will Hollings.

The City boys kept up the pressure, with Elliot Rayner working hard down the right and Taylor Bell stretching the Wakefield defence from the left.

Ben Thornton and Eliott Heath both went close as Harry Tinker and Jackson Cowl drove the team on from midfield.

Hollings was cutting the home side’s defence apart with his pin-point passing, while goalkeeper Todd Edgar kept the team on the attack with a fine display of passing from the area.

Defensively, York looked solid with a back four of Dan Tingle, Joe Roughley, Ben Pearson and Ben Hudson.

York switched to a back three at the interval in an attempt to score more goals.

The second half was a carbon copy of the first, with York on the front foot and taking the game to Wakefield.

Heath and Humphreys both had shots saved and Hollings headed over from an Oliver Kilvington corner.

George Turbine, returning from injury, was back to his best on the left of a back three.

Ben Thornton finally doubled York’s advantage on 55 minutes – volleying in from six yards after a Humphreys cross.

The goal seemed to break the defiance of the home defence and Hollings made it 3-0 soon after with a shot from outside the box.

Toby Warren, in goal for York, was composed when brought into action and started the move that led to Humphreys adding the fourth from long range.

York Schoolboys U14s made the long journey to Nottingham after a six-week festive break and returned with a 3-0 victory.

York opened the game with Harvey Stephenson, Elliot Oliver, Ben Calam and Charlie Fort taking control of the midfield.

The back four of Leo Jones, Ben Fawcett, Ben Rhodes and Sid McCoy comfortably marshalled the Nottingham attack.

Liam White opened the scoring after just four minutes after collecting a pass from Luke Jones and beating a defender.

The York boys were comfortable in possession and played some neat one-touch football, with wingers Calam and Fort finding plenty of space.

Nottingham struggled to mount any form of attack as York kept them pinned back.

The Nottingham goalkeeper was on top form but was finally beaten again by Luke Jones following a scramble at a corner after 17 minutes.

Calam made it 3-0 after 24 minutes following a good move involving Fawcett and White, who deftly flicked the ball over the defence before Calam rounded the goalkeeper.

York goalkeeper Joseph Hodge made his first and only save on 43 minutes as Nottingham struggled to get beyond the visitors’ rearguard.

The game finished with a rare Nottingham attack but the striker was unable to find the target and shot wide.
