TWO late goals saw Old Malton St Mary's beat 10-man York Minster Engineering League premier division leaders Wigginton Grasshoppers to reach the last four of the North Riding County FA Saturday County Cup.

Saints - who lifted this trophy for the first time in 2014 and reached the final again in 2015 - won 3-1, handing player-manager Darren Dunning an early 36th birthday present.

His side, York League champions last year but currently languishing in mid-table, had been on top for the first period but the game only really changed on the stroke of half-time when Wiggy defender Jordan Holt was sent off for handball on the goal-line, Dunning himself dispatching the penalty for a 1-0 lead at the break.

Despite being a man down, however, Grasshoppers deservedly struck back midway through the second half with a penalty of their own, Gary Newton the scorer.

The tie remained in the balance, too, until two minutes from time when St Mary's broke down the left, Grant Bulmer's cross was flicked on and Steve Baxter headed home.

Then in stoppage time as Wigginton threw men forward, Saints broke again, with Scott Nicholas sealing victory, his shot being tipped onto a post and in.

Huntington Rovers, second in the premier division, also progressed to the semi-finals.

They were level with the University of York at the break after the two sides had shared four goals in the first half but finished the stronger, running out 5-2 winners.

Jon James, Chris Dyson, Dan Gray (2) and substitute George Brown got Rovers' goals.

The other two quarter-finals were Teesside League affairs - Boro Rangers winning 8-7 on penalties at Thornaby Dubliners after a 3-3 draw, and Redcar Town winning 2-1 at Beads.
