SCARBOROUGH Athletic reignited their promotion hopes in Evo-Stik League division one north - and left Tadcaster Albion ruing controversial refereeing.

As reported by The Press, mid-table Taddy led 2-1 with ten minutes left before man-in-the-middle Tristan Greaves awarded the visitors a penalty, much to the chagrin of Brewers boss Billy Stewart.

Adam Bolder converted the spot kick, before Cameron Murray netted the winner with five minutes to play for a 3-2 result which lifted the Seadogs - defeated in their previous two games - back to fifth, above Clitheroe who were held by Colne in a derby draw. It left Tadcaster 13th.

Taddy boss Miller had made five changes to the side that saw off Yorkshire Amateur in the West Riding County Cup.

After a cagey opening quarter, both Carl Stewart and Jono Greening - a hat-trick scorer last midweek - saw efforts from outside the box go straight at keeper Jordan Porter.

Boro then carved out a glorious chance, new boy Jacob Hazel denied by a terrific one-on-one save from Gary Stevens, before Taddy drew first blood on 39 minutes - through former Scarborough marksman Stewart.

The striker latched onto Josh Grant’s long ball and flicked over the keeper who had come flying out.

Taddy began the second half on the front foot, Dan Thirkell and Tom Corner going close.

But Boro levelled nine minutes in, after a mix-up between keeper Stevens and Tom Allan. Craig Nelthorpe squared to Benny Igiehon to tap in.

Josh Greening thought he had put Taddy back in front when firing low and hard, but Porter made a super stop.

They did score a minute later as Allan marked his second appearance for the club with a second goal, turning in Josh Greening’s deep free-kick on the hour.

Claims of offside and handball were both waved away, with protests resulting in a flurry of yellow cards.

Twenty minutes later, Greaves made a dubious call at the other end, adjudging Dan Thirkell to have brought down Hazel.

Bolder sidefooted home the penalty and, while Taddy had come from behind to win the FA Cup meeting earlier in the season, this time it was Boro's turn as attacker Cameron Murray fired in after some pinball in the home area.
