POPPLETON United moved nine points clear at the top of the York Minster Engineering League’s first division after a 3-0 home triumph against Tockwith.

Strikes from Joe Dale and Matthew Malkin, along with an Alex Janes penalty, saw United open up their gap on nearest rivals Pocklington Town seconds who, nevertheless, have three games in hand.

Both team have only dropped five points all season.

Harrison Signs moved up to third position after defeating Heslington by the same scoreline with Karl Babaro and Neil Fryirs (2) grabbing the goals.

After a goalless first half, the game between Rawcliffe and Thorpe United sprang into life during a lively second period with the hosts going on to shock the visitors as they dominated play to gain a convincing 5-2 success.

Jordan Bean (2), Paul Branscombe, Henry Wharton and Jonny Moss all found the net for Rawcliffe.

The game between Kirkbymoorside and Cliffe started at a frantic pace with Jason Brown blazing over the bar in the first minute and Tom Grundy latching on to the resulting goal kick to fire his side ahead from all of 40 yards.

The home side had many chances to level, but had to wait until just before half-time when Sarjo Cham headed in the equaliser.

Kirkbymoorside took the lead through Brown shortly after the restart and went further clear in the 62nd minute when substitute Chris Leadham struck to make it 3-1.

Man-of-the-match Brown completed his brace five minutes from time to round off a deserved success for the home side.

Wilberfoss remain at the top of division two following a 7-1 win at bottom club Fulford.
