PICKERING Town, who are one of five teams to apply for Step Four promotion from the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division, picked up a point at home to Staveley Miners' Welfare.

The Pikes were understrength but secured a 2-2 draw after goals from Lewis Taylor in the 13th minute and new signing Eddy Birch in the 75th minute.

Staveley, who stay in 11th, had gone ahead via Charlie Oglesby (48) and Callum Mawbey (58) but the point for Pickering was not enough to stop them dropping from third to fifth after convincing wins for Bridlington Town and Handsworth Parramore on a day when 53 goals were scored in the ten matches.

The other four to apply for promotion are leaders Cleethorpes Town, Bridlington Town, Handsworth Parramore and Thackley but a poll has revealed that only three per cent think of those surveyed that Pickering will be promoted. Harrogate Railway Athletic were thumped 7-1 at Handsworth Parramore, with Paul Beesley getting the consolation goal in the 67th minute when they were 7-0 down.

In Division One, Selby Town had to rely on penalties from Scott Jones (23) and Liam Flanagan (82) to gain a point at home to 13th placed Brigg Town, while Knaresborough Town remained eighth after a 0-0 home draw against lowly Rossington Main.

Leaders Scarborough Athletic were involved in a coupon buster at home to Radcliffe Borough in Evo-Stik Division One North.

Athletic had only lost one at home in the league before this weekend, while Borough hadn't won any away, but they broke that duck with a 3-1 victory, Frank Van Gils (2) and Raul Correia netting for them with Cameron Murray getting the sole reply in the 54th minute as Scarborough dropped to third.

Harrogate Town have a Buildbase FA Trophy first-round replay at FA Cup heroes Barrow tomorrow [Tuesday] after a 3-3 draw at the CNG Stadium.

Jordan Williams and Ritchie Bennett put Barrow 2-0 ahead inside eight minutes, but Town skipper Simon Ainge started the comeback with a trademark header from a Joe Leesley corner just before the half-hour.

Leesley made it 2-2 just before the break, and Jon Paul Pittman put Town ahead in the 61st minute following up his own saved penalty.

However, the hosts had right back Lewis Turner sent off in the 77th minute, and Bennett made it 3-3 11 minutes later.
