WIGGINTON Grasshoppers closed in on top spot in division one of The Fastpack Ltd York Sunday Morning League after gaining three points against Cliffe.

A brace for Harry Clapham saw Wigginton 2-0 up at the break, and further goals were added by Tom Metcalfe and Michael Clancy for a 4-1 win.

York Nomads came from behind to beat Brayton 6-3 after a high-scoring second half.

Brayton got off to a flier with Will Cleary scoring after six minutes and the same player got a second on the half-hour mark.

York Nomads came out firing after the interval, scoring three goals inside 25 minutes to turn the game around.

They then made it 4-2 and, although Brayton’s Patrick Guest pulled one back, Nomads scored a twice more. Liam Flanagan scored four of them, with Chris Bilton and John Patrick also on target.

Marcia Bishopthorpe jumped one place to fourth after a 3-3 draw with Thorpe.

Marcia’s goals came from Nathan Walker (2) and Hash Sherif, Thorpe’s scorers were Jake Wild (2) and Reece Stonach.

The top two clashed in division two, with Selby Olympia maintaining their 100 per cent record with a 5-2 win over Beeswing.

Olympia led 2-1 at half-time, and pushed on in the second period to eventually go clear.

Jordan Pickering bagged two of their goals, with Sam McAllister, John Cox and Tom Lazenby getting the others. Beeswing’s marksmen were Kirk Stevens and Mike Tansey.

Haxby United and Knapton Lions drew 5-5 in a thriller.

Haxby were in front for most of the game but Knapton constantly kept the pressure on by always bringing a goal back to keep the scores close.

The points seemed destined for Haxby when they went 5-3 up but Knapton dug in and scored twice to level by the finish.

Jordan Ashby scored a hat-trick and Matt Wash a double for United, while Declan Richardson was the Lions' goalscoring hero with four, Sam Wright getting the other.

Rawcliffe Crusaders comfortably beat Elmpark 9-1, with Sam Lappish scoring a hat-trick and Adam Curley, Dave Durham and Jermaine Mason all bagging braces. Chris Barratt scored Elmpark’s consolation.

Bramham brushed aside York Medics 5-0 with Adam Field netting a hat-trick and Anthony Walsh also among the scorers.

Meanwhile, Hounds progressed to the quarter-finals of the West Riding County FA Sunday Cup, beating Pudsey Athletic 5-1.

Fellow York Sunday Morning League side Hambleton lost a close game to Atlanta.
