THE York Minster Engineering League premier division title race was blown wide open as Dunnington rained on Huntington Rovers' parade with a 2-1 victory at Common Road.

The home side's victory leaves Rovers three points clear at the top with Wigginton Grasshoppers and Sporting Knavesmire both lying within striking distance of the leaders.

Samson Wildwood was the architect behind Dunnington's triumph, scoring the first and playing an instrumental part in the second with Josh Hutchinson sealing the points for the hosts.

Earlier, Huntington had gone into the lead courtesy of an own goal.

Grasshoppers are now three points behind Rovers following their 5-1 triumph at F1 Racing.

The away side were in front after seven minutes when Neale Holmes and Terry Taylor played a one-two with the former slotting the ball neatly past the F1 keeper.

Seventeen minutes later and Taylor was involved again, lifting the ball over the home stopper to double the lead.

Just before the interval, Stuart Rice and Matt Tiplady combined to set Gary Newton free and the midfielder made the most of his one-on-one opportunity to increase the lead further.

A brace from Eddy Clapham after the interval saw Grasshoppers assured of the points before a stunning 35-yard strike from Liam King gave the home team a small consolation.

Sporting Knavesmire were made to work for their three points by York RI, but despite a goalless first half, the visitors eventually asserted themselves to gain the victory.
