YORK Under-14s Schoolboys bounced back from their late defeat last time out to beat Barnsley 4-0.

York displayed some fine passing football and showed great character - and this time played till the final whistle.

Elliot Oliver headed their first chance over but they soon took the lead, Luke Jones curling a fierce free-kick over the wall into the top left corner.

With York keeper Joseph Hodge a relative bystander, Barnsley's first corner, in the 18th minute, was the first real danger the hosts had to deal with - and ironically it led to their second goal.

Jones rounded his man on the edge of his own area and hit a sublime pass to Liam White, the only York player ahead of the ball.

He set off on a mesmerising run from half-way past three defenders to the byline before cutting a pinpoint ball back to Elliot Oliver who, having charged 70 yards up in support, sidefooted home.

York midfielders Ben Calum and Oliver and wingers Olly Handley - replaced when injured by Charlie Fort - and Harvey Stephenson did their defensive duties, while the back four of Ben Rhodes, Leo Jones, Sid McCoy and man-of-the-match Luke Ryder remained resolute.

When Barnsley did get through from a free-kick, the shot was well saved by Hodge.

The keeper then pulled off an even better save - fingertipping onto a post - when Barnsley finally found space in behind.

Fort had a shot saved at the other end, with York then getting on top after half-time, Luke Jones, Fort and Ed Hammond going close.

Luke Jones hit an upright then the bar before finally getting his second goal. Ryder and McCoy broke up a Barnsley attack with the former releasing Fort down the left. He in turn fed Jones who turned his marker, drove into the area and slotted home.

After another driving run, Jones cut the ball back for Hammond whose shot was cleared off the line by the defence.

But it did become four when White, charging out of defence, released Fort, who beat his marker for pace and scored.

A late Barnsley attack saw Hodge beaten for the first time - but McCoy cleared off the line.

YORK U13s Schoolboys fell 3-0 at Hambleton & Richmond in tricky, icy conditions - the scoreline being very much against the run of play.

The away team, with the slope, started the stronger, Taylor Bell creating early opportunities for Ben Thornton and Eliott Heath.

Harry Tinker and Ben Hudson also had chances, before Hambleton began to get into the game, only to find Jackson Cowl in fine form at the back along with Ben Pearson.

Keeper Todd Edgar had a lot less to do than his counterpart, who was called into action again with a super save from Oliver Kilvington's 25-yard free kick.

Hambleton then took the lead with their first corner of the game just before half-time.

Playing up the slope, York switched to three at the back, putting an extra man in midfield, and it seemed to work as they continued to make chances, the hardworking Lewis Humphreys having a fine game up front.

However, they were hit by a sucker punch when a back pass went astray, gifting the hosts a second goal.

York rallied, throwing a third man up front too, but they kept missing chances, and, from a long clearances over the top, Hambleton got a third

YORK U11s Schoolboys made it five straight league wins with a hard-fought 5-3 victory over Derby - thanks three late goals.

York dominated the early possession but struggled to deal defensively when Derby attacked, the visitors going ahead after ten minutes.

York responded well and, when the ball popped out to Ryan Evans, he equalised with a fine strike.

York then forced a succession of corners and, again when Derby half-cleared, Dylan Jones magnificently smashed home from range.

Derby levelled after a succession of defensive lapses and went ahead with a penalty on 42 minutes.

However, York stepped up the pressure, with midfielders Jamie Hudson, Fraser Clarke and Jack Whalen to the fore, and, in the space of four minutes, Ronnie Kelly then Ben Myers, with the goal of the game, turned things round - York going ahead with three minutes left.

With Derby deflated, Kelly got his second to seal victory at the death.
