YORK Schoolboys Under-12s put in a five-star performance to thrash Spen Valley 5-0 last weekend.

The York youngsters immediately piled on the pressure with a series of corners and free-kicks.

And from this pressure came the first goal. A fine delivery to the back post from Matthew Dawes’ corner was met by Ellis Cattaneo who headed the ball into the top right-hand corner.

York continued their bright start and doubled their lead when a delightful left-footed through ball by Dillon Meehan allowed Tommy Cahill to stroke the ball into the far corner of the net.

York grabbed goal number three with their third different scorer. Some tidy work between Cole Gayles and Kaiden Butler down the right-hand side allowed Gayles to cut inside onto his left foot and fire past the keeper.

Shortly before the interval, Cahill scored his second and York’s fourth. A Tom Algar free-kick was headed against the post by Butler, and Cahill was there to hammer the rebound home.

Into the second half, York added a fifth goal when Butler nodded home after another superb Dawes free-kick caused havoc in the area.

This was a very impressive performance from the York boys, with Algar the man of the match.

York Schoolboys Under-11s maintained their unbeaten league record with a fine 4-1 away win at West Yorkshire rivals Leeds.

In wet conditions and on a heavy surface, York adapted the quicker of the two teams, forcing the early pressure without carving out any clear-cut chances.

However, on the 11-minute mark Ronnie Kelly chased down a long pass and took an early strike which caught the Leeds keeper unawares. The ball nestled in the bottom corner after first catching the post.

Just before the 30-minute mark, Kelly struck again – this time hitting the opposite post before the ball crossed the line to put York 2-0 in front.

The second half got underway and it was the turn of midfielder Fraser Clarke to slot home from eight yards after good work down the right from Liam Mainprize and Bobby Boyson.

Leeds pulled one back after a long range free-kick deceived York keeper Henry Jackson, but Kelly rounded off a superb hat-trick and man of the match performance to leave the final score 4-1 to York

Following the previous weekend’s hard-fought victory in the cup, York Schoolboys Under-15s entertained Guiseley in a friendly fixture.

York took the lead within three minutes following an unfortunate slip by the Guiseley keeper, with Oscar Butters pouncing on the loose ball to fire York into a 1-0 lead.

However, York were punished following a mix-up at the back, allowing Guiseley to equalise with a close-range effort.

On the half hour, Guiseley took the lead when York failed to clear the ball from a corner to make the score 2-1.

York responded and following a corner they were awarded a penalty when Joe Crosby was fouled in the box, allowing Lucas Wilson to coolly convert the spot-kick to make the half-time score 2-2.

After the break, Butters scored his second of the game, pouncing on a loose ball following a save from the Guiseley keeper.

In the final minutes, York extended their lead when a clever free-kick from Danny Allinson was headed into the net by Ben Barker-Spencer to make the final score 4-2.
