SPORTING Knavesmire made the most of their rivals’ involvement in county cups, defeating Brooklyn 9-0 to move up to third in the York Minster Engineering League Premier Division.

Tom Owen led the scoring with a hat-trick, and was supported by strikes from Jake Duckworth (2), George Wilson, Alex Dale and Danny Owers, with an own goal rounding off a miserable day for Brooklyn.

Dringhouses moved up the table following a convincing 6-3 win over Church Fenton White Horse, while Riccall United returned to winning ways with a shock 3-0 victory at in-form Osbaldwick.

Wigginton Grasshoppers played out a 1-1 draw at Fishburn Park before going on to win the game 4-3 on penalties following the heroics of goalkeeper Michael Clancy, who saved four penalties in the shoot-out.

Earlier, Eddy Clapham had put ‘Hoppers in front before Fishburn levelled via the penalty spot.

Huntington Rovers travelled to Kirkbymoorside, where goals from Jon James (2) and James Edmond, plus a Chris Dyson penalty, saw them safely through to the last eight with a 4-1 triumph.

Old Malton St Mary’s got the better of the all-Premier Division tie at F1 Racing.

The home side trailed 2-0 at the break but brought themselves right back into the game when Chris Smith fired home. However, F1 could not convert pressure into goals, and Old Malton punished them late on with two goals that allowed them to run out as 4-1 winners.

Copmanthorpe suffered a 2-0 reversal at Redcar Town, while Dunnington enjoyed an excellent 2-1 victory at home to North Ferriby Athletic in the East Riding County Cup.
