PICKERING Town are through to the first-round proper of the Buildbase FA Vase after a 3-1 second qualifying round victory at Northern League Consett AFC.

The Pikes were handed a golden opportunity to take the lead but striker Ryan Blott failed to convert a penalty, keeper Chris Elliott getting down well to his right to save an effort which lacked conviction.

However, Blott made amends in the 42nd minute, slotting a left-footed strike into the bottom right-hand corner beyond the oncoming Elliott.

The Pikes had to clear an effort off the line in the second half before doubling their lead in the 49th minute in bizarre circumstances, with Blott lofting a free-kick over the Consett keeper, who was off his line.

In the 72nd minute, the visitors all but sealed the victory when Nathan Kamara fired home from close range, although they did concede six minutes later via a well-struck Jordan Lavery volley.

However, Pikes goalkeeper Toby Wells made numerous impressive saves overall, including superbly keeping out a free-kick from Consett captain Danny Craggs.

Harrogate Railway Athletic lost by the same score at home to Hallmark Security League newcomers Charnock Richard.

The away wins theme continued in Toolstation Northern Counties East League Division One as both Selby Town and Knaresborough Town triumphed 4-1.

Selby's victory came at Worsbrough Bridge Athletic, while Knaresborough's was at Brigg Town via braces by Brad Walker and Fraser Lancaster.

In Evo-Stik Division One North, Scarborough Athletic won 1-0 at home to newly-promoted Colne, after striker Benny Igiehon was pulled back in the area in the 86th minute.

Colne's Michael Morrison was sent off, and Adam Bolder fired home the spot-kick.

In Vanarama National League North, Harrogate Town remain second behind AFC Fylde after defeating visitors Gloucester City 3-1.

City's first defeat in four matches came courtesy of goals by Jon-Paul Pittman after 25 minutes, Simon Ainge just before half-time and Dominic Knowles in the 70th minute, four minutes after Ed Williams had netted for Gloucester.
